Liam O'Flaherty was an Irish novelist and short story writer born in 1896 in Ireland. He served in World War I and later joined the Irish Free State. One of his most famous works is the short story "The Sniper", which takes place in Dublin during the Irish Civil War. It follows an IRA sniper and depicts the psychological effects of war. The story climaxes when the sniper realizes that the enemy sniper he has killed is actually his own brother.
