In 2015 ABC News reported on a homeland security's inspector general report stating that airport
screeners, who are employed by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), failed to detect
banned weapons in 67 of 70 tests at dozens of airports. They also failed to detect mock explosives
and weapons 95% of the time. (Gardian) In August of 2014, a woman was able to board a plane at
the San Jose Airport without a ticket, made it all the way to her destination before being arrested by
police, and who later was determined to be a mentally disturbed individual.Burger
The most recent example of security failures happened in June of 2016 when it was discovered that
a Somali war criminal was working at the Dulles International Airport. The individual worked as a
security guard employed by private security company that conducted a criminal background and
vetting process as prescribed by the TSA. This individual had full access to the Dulles Airport, just a
short distance to the nation's capital. (Dooley)
These incidents show that the Transportation Security Administration is another bureaucratic agency
that is incapable of providing proper airport security and has so far gotten lucky that another terrorist
attack using airliners has not occurred. In this paper I will illustrate that the TSA is not the best
vehicle to provide airport security and will offer some suggestions on how to improve security at

How are schools able to assure parents that their children are getting the resources they need to work

to perform at grade–level. Therefore, the child will need to receive outside resources to supplement
the reading curriculum that is provided in the classroom. A teacher may pull these students 2–3

shown on the screener. The student will also be progress monitored using different assessments

The process of screening and profiling has contributed to numerous complaints from passengers
who have been selected for additional screening. Passenger profiling at the airport should not be the
sole means of protecting our flying public from would–be terrorists. If a present security measure is
found to prevent potential customers from flying without providing a meaningful prevention to

so far prevented a repeat of September 2011, but this new system has caused negative press and
public uproars about personal privacy issues (GAO, 2008).
In November 2001, President Bush signed the ATSA into law creating the TSA as the new federal

Initially, TSA retained private security screeners. However, over a period of nearly seven months,
starting at Baltimore–Washington International Airport on April 30, 2002, and concluding on
November 19, 2002, TSA employees began to conduct passenger–screening operations at all U.S.

It is at this point, after the passengers have had themselves and their property searched twice (at the
ticket counter and security checkpoint), do they again become subject to hand wands, pat downs,
and bag searches. Only after all of these procedures have been completed is the passenger allowed

When talking to the consumer over the phone requires critical thinking. I notice that everyone has
his or her own interacting style with the consumers. It requires the critical thinking when doing the
intake and referrals over the phone as well as documenting. My "mentor" Helen, the Quality
Specialist, just discuss about the confidentiality with me recently. She had shared one of the story
happened to one Long–term Care screener. The client was in the process of applying Medicaid, yet,
she didn't claim one of her assets, which is the cottage she co–owns with her sister. The screener
caught that during the conversation and she realized that could potentially cause trouble in the future
if Medicaid catch the fraud. The screener encouraged the client to tell Medicaid staff, but she
refused to do so. What would I do under that circumstance? How do I document this? Can I tell the
Medicaid worker about this? I personally think the client needs to report this to avoid the penalty
and I want to report this to the Medicaid worker who is sitting across to me. But the confidentiality
requires me not saying anything without the client's consent. All I can do is to tell the client the
potential consequences if this is found as a fraud, and encourage her to report it. Having critical
thinking enables me to think objectively and eliminate my personal bias when interacting with

The TSA was tasked with the tremendous challenge of building a large federal agency responsible
for securing all modes of transportation. Funding for the TSA is accomplished by a $2.50 charge per
flight segment not to exceed $10.00 round trip, per customer. The mission as described by the TSA
website (www.tsa.gov) is as follows, "The Transportation Security Administration protects the
Nation's transportation systems to ensure freedom of movement for people and commerce." The

ABSTRACT With an ever growing and poorly executed mission, the Transportation Security
Administration (TSA) is a clear stain on American society. Countless examples of humiliation,
unconstitutionality, and criminal abuse by the agency have been documented, while its goal of
keeping Americans safe has failed during attempted attacks. The TSA's very existence threatens the
American constitution and comes at the cost of American dignity. While there are lessons to be
learned from around the country and world on possible fixes to the TSA, it remains to be seen what,
if anything, can redeem such a failed agency.
The attacks of September 11th, 2001 in New York and Washington DC shocked and horrified not
only Americans, but the entire civilized world. Before that fateful Tuesday, airports had security,
though it often was not standardized across airports. Also, the fact that the attackers used knives and
box cutters rather than guns or grenades, which are more easily detected, seemingly made the attack
more vicious and personal. The attacks did terrible physical damage to the targeted cities, and the
loss of life was catastrophic. Pressed by the media and public, the United States government created
entirely new departments in the wake of the attack to deal with terroristic activity within the United
