This is an analysis for the short story,The Rubbish Dump for elementary schools students as their additional reference.

1. Changing their Skies

2. Plot
Introduction
 Joey sat on the ground, playing with his small toy car and later he met
Mazambezi who was collecting the rubbish from airport. Then, he heard
the sound of aeroplane as it went overhead in a terrible roar of engine
noise. He soon started to remember about his first meeting with
Mazambezi.
Rising Action
 A week after he moved into one of the little airport houses, he saw
Mazambezi go past with his wheelbarrow to the dump and he became
curious as why he took so long at the dump. One day, he followed
Mazambezi to the dump and when he wanted to go nearer him, he fell into
the rubbish dump. Mazambezi tried to help him but Joey refused and
shouted angrily at him.

3. Climax
One day, when Joey was talking to the man at Tokyo airport,
Mazambezi suddenly offered him a toy plane with a sad look in his
eyes and Joey looked back at him, afraid. He stepped back then
stepped forward again, took the toy plane and ran home as fast as
possible.
Falling Action
A week after that, Joey came to meet Mazambezi to thank him for the
toy plane. Then, they sat together at the edge of the dump with their
legs hanging down the pit and began to have a conversation about the
airport, the planes, the whites and the rubbish.

4. Ending
After they were done with their conversations, they decided to meet
each other again the next day. They both went away down the road.
Joey then realized that his life for now would remain the same. The
rubbish find its way to the dump; the flies and the birds; Mazambezi
and Joey.

5. Characters
Joey (Round & Dynamic)
 A boy from a lower social class who lives next to an airport.
 He likes to watch the passengers with expensive clothes getting off
from the airplane.
 A friend of Mazambezi.
 His dreams are to be able to read about the famous places and
perhaps travel the places.

6. Mazambezi (Round & Static)
 A man from lower social class who collects rubbish from the planes.
 A friend of Joey.
 He finds some leftover foods from the rubbish for his meals.
 He collects “goods” from the rubbish because those things travelled
from other places.

7. Joey's mother (Round & Static)
 A big-sized person.
 A caring mother.
 She would scold Joey if she knows he plays at the rubbish dump.
 She is loyal to her husband.
Joey's father (Flat & Static)
 A boring father.
 He always come home late, and drunk.
 He adores white men.

8. Themes
 The difference of social classes between:
a) African and white people.
b) Rich and poor.

9. Moral Values
 We should be grateful because many others are facing more difficulties
in life.
 Education is important.
 We should not judge other people's way of living because we do not
know their journey.
