The Royal Dutch Navy has a long history dating back to the 16th century when it was involved in many European wars and was the most powerful navy in the world in the 17th century. It was based in allied countries during World War 2 after the Netherlands fell to Germany. The navy currently operates various vessel types like frigates, submarines, and patrol vessels and will likely continue growing to be one of the largest navies in the future given the Netherlands' economic strength and military history.
