6. Here this slide is showing water coming from the same door. This is another sign we get that something isn’t right. The woman goes to grab the handle slowly, which makes the atmosphere tense. This is a very strange scene as if something is leaking behind the door it shouldn’t be dripping as high up as the door handle, making us believe that something is definitely wrong.
7. This scene is a real shocker to the audience, as at the beginning of the title sequence, we are shown a fresh faced, young girl. Now we are shown the complete opposite, and when we see her scream, we want to know what’s so bad that she is screaming at? And where was all that water coming from in the first place?
8. Here is the symbolic ‘ring’ that is named in the title of the film. It quickly flashes up in the middle of the title sequence, and only stays on the screen for less than a second. This makes us believe that they do not want us to see this ring, and wants us to wonder what the ring stands for, or what it means.
9. Having the sequence in black and white, creates a more spooky and gloomy feel, instigating the horror genre. The names are also shown as it looks like lights in the dark, showing that there could be a message through the lights in the dark. What is also interesting about the way the names of people that participate in the film is, that they all fade into the shape of the ring when the name disappears. This may connotate that that when you see the ring, you may go away yourself.
10. This is another shot we get of water again. It tells us that throughout the film it is associated with water. As it is a horror/thriller film, this may tell us that the consequence will also be associated with water.
11. This scene makes the last point on the previous slide even stronger. By saying that the consequence could be something to do with water, we are shown here, what we read as blood in water. This could connotate that someone may die in water, or suffer underwater.
12. This next slide shows, a close up of women’s feet, we know this as there is nail varnish on the toenails. The colour of the nail varnish is very significant as it is red. Red usually connotates as blood, it can also be seen as love and passion, but in a horror film, more than definitely seen as blood. We were also shown a close up of the woman’s feet at the beginning in water. From this you could maybe see that she starts walking through water at the beginning, and comes out with blood on her feet at the end.
13. This part of the sequence, shows us a well. The well ties in with the water , and gives us an idea from where the water has been represented from. The light shining onto the centre of the well, highlights it to the audience and makes us focus on this. It also creates shadows which makes it seem gloomy, and creates shadows, giving us a sense that someone could be near us.
14. This last scene is after we have ‘tumbled’ down the well, and left into darkness. We are then shown to the beginning of the film, where a little child is drawing a picture. It goes into the picture of the ring and the boy drawing a black sun. This is very unusual for a child to draw a dark sun, it would usually be a bright colour. This may tell us the child might play a strong role in the film, and has a strong impact in changing the story line.
