• Budget: $80 million
• Box office: $162,944,923
• Genre: Drama, Mystery, Thriller.
• Political intrigue and deception unfold
inside the United Nations, where a US
Secret Service agent is assigned to
    investigate an interpreter who overhears
    an assassination plot.
• Director: Sydney Pollack.
• Writers: Martin Stellman (story), Brian
    Ward (story).
• Stars: Nicole Kidman , Sean Penn
    and Catherine Keener.
The credits at the beginning to the film fade in an out in an eerie and
non-chronological fashion, which gives the film a sense of
distortedness from the very opening itself.

White on black, usually symbolises mourning and a cheerless
occasion, the use of it at the opening lets the audience know that this
isn't going to be a rom-com.
We are then shown a figure that emerges from a sandy background the image
is blurred and is walking directly towards the camera the . This shot is an
establishing shot in which we see the surroundings and we, can immediately
see that this could possible be set in an LEDC (Less Economically Developed
Country) which immediately makes the audience intrigued yet apprehensive
because the customs that we are used to aren't shown and we are almost been
thrown out of our comfort zone.
This shot is an extreme long shot of the cars and people walking in the back ground but
also a close up of the sign. The sign reinforces the fact that we aren't in an
predominantly English speaking country because of the sign that we see, and we cant
read it which makes us feel out of sync with the film as if we are clueless to the
surroundings.
We are then told where we are, even though we still feel apprehensive we feel
better because at least we now have a vague sense of where the movie is. We can
now see that the movie isn't going to be about the woman that we were first
introduced to as she is left is the distant and the camera is now following what
seems to be a safari car.
We are then introduced to 3 male characters their clothes seem dirty and the
two white men seem to be sweating a lot more than the black man which could
show that they aren't as a costumed to the climate. The white male at the back
has a journal which gives the audience a deeper in site into them because they
could be journalist. The white man at the front talks about a woman that they
have previously met which shows us that their is an history, in the story and we
are in fact been introduced into something that has already been previously
happening. They talk about a man named Zuwanie and they speak about all the
people that he has killed which gives the audiences the idea of good vs. evil.
We then see a man and he is been guided by a child because he cant see and the
man at the back takes a picture of it, and the flash of the camera changes the image
from colour to black and white which shows him capturing, and almost a
photographic memory. Also the camera could be used for evidence later on in the
movie which makes the audience feel as if they may be journalist even more. Non-
diegetic sound is used to enhance the camera which tells the audience it comes
with great importance.
