Magna Carta
The Magna Carta was written for England, in June 1215.

The Magna Carta was a series of written
   promises between the King and his
 subjects, so that the King would govern
   England and deal with its people in
accordance of the customs of feudal law.

        The Magna Carta was an attempt by the barons
       to stop the King from abusing his power. It made
         rule of law-- the King was under the law too.
Glorious Revolution
 The Glorious
  Revolution
 took place in
   England.


William Orange and Mary took the
 throne during the start of the
       Glorious Revolution.
                                 Magna Carta forever
                                limited the monarchs.
English Bill of Rights

It was written in 1688.


                        The English Bill of Rights
                        limited the power of the
                       monarch. For example, they
                       couldn’t suspend laws, levy
                         taxes, or custom duties
                      without Parliament’s consent.
The Enlightenment
                      The Enlightenment, or Age of
                  Reason, was a time when man began
                   to use his reason to discover the
                   world, casting off the superstition
                  and fear of the medieval world. The

He was born in Geneva.

     Social Contract is a
 philosophically constructive
   work. It outlines how a
  government could exist in
such a way that it protects the
 equality and the character of
          its citizens.
Thomas Jefferson
                     He wrote the Kentucky
                     and Virginia Resolutions.



                        He was born in Albemarle
                            County, Virginia.


He changed wording from ‘property’ to ‘pursuit of
    happiness’ because of slaves and women.
