THE PRESENT SIMPLE TENSE

She plays with her cars after lunch
every day.
We use present simple to talk about:
• Habits and routines:
   – She eats paella every Thursday
   – I always go to school on foot
• Thruths or permanent states:
   – My mother lives in Viladecans
   – Water boils at 100ºC
• To express near future:
   – My mum arrives today
(hàbits, rutines, coses que són certes i futurs propers)

3rd person singular - spelling
1. In general, the third person singular is formed by adding an s
   to the base verb. ( En principi la 3a del singular afegeix s)
    work           He works

2. Verbs ending in ss,x,ch,sh,o add “es” to the third person
   singular. (si el verb acaba en ss, x, ch, sh, o afegim –es)

   dress          She dresses
   fix            He fixes
   watch          She watches T.V.
   wash           She washes
   go             It goes !

 3. Verbs ending in consonant + y, changes the y to i and add “es”
    Consonant + y  i + es: cry – cries, fly – flies, terrify – terrifies
    Vowel+y  y+s: play – plays
• (però quan acaben en cons+y> i+es vocal+y> ys)
