1. The Passenger starts off with a point of view shot of an empty dark isolated road.
There is no lighting except the headlights. Also, there are trees near the road
suggesting that this is the outskirts of a country. Then there is a quick shot which is
a wide shot of the car and the young women driver driving in her car. On the left
side, the title the passenger is shown in white contrasting with the black
background. Whilst this is shown there is a sound of a woman breathing loudly and
the screen shaking slightly representing unease. The use of the iPhone texting noise
shows that she is typing on her phone. There was a loud thud which came from
under her car this surprised
her and eventually her car stops. There is an extreme close up of her feet getting
outside of the car and walking whilst the wind howls. There is another point of
view shot from a far distance showing that she is being watched by someone. Then
someone runs in the forefront unknown.
There is a low angle shot showing her fixing the tyre and behind we see bare feet
running which a loud wind noise is made emphasising the presence of someone
else. The feet stand still and there is a loud noise of someone breathing in which
she abruptly gets startled. There is a loud eerie screech whilst there is a front view
taken of the car and her. The door slams shut loudly and there is a loud scratch
noise. In which she gets frightened and leans on the car. An extreme close up is
shot of her being frightened. Every time a thud is made she shakes and trembles.
She breathes heavily. Something tries touching her from behind a hand and she
screams and hits. It turns out that it is her friend.
I really enjoyed this film as the use of a variety of shots seemed to work very well
together. The quick shots created suspense and tension as the audience did not
know who the barefooted person is. I would love my film to be similar like this
film in terms of shot variation and perfectly edited.
