6. Composed “U.P. Beloved- A school hymn that won
1st prize in an open musical competition in 1917.
Prominent composer of Kundimans.
He reshaped and raised this genre to creative
heights through his compositions such as “Nasaan
Ka Irog?”, “Kundiman ng Luha”, “ Magbalik ka
Hirang”, “Pahimakas”, “Bituing Marikit”, and “ Mutya
ng Pasig”
Composed more than 140 works (zarzuela and
classical genre)

8. In 1923, He obtained his Diploma major in Violoncellist in
the University of the Philippines College of Music
After graduation, he was assigned to teach music history,
harmony, composition, and Violoncello in the
Conservatory of Music
Became consultant at the Bureau of Public Schools and
became guest conductor of the Manila Concert
Orchestra.
Became faculty member of the University of Santo
Tomas Conservatory of Music
Served as dean emeritus of Centro Escolar University in
1948
