2. What's the meaning of contemporary
music?
According to vibraphonist Victor Mendoza,
contemporary music is, simply put, “music
performed and created with what is
rhythmically, harmonically, and
texturally current.”

One of the differences is that traditional music
focuses on social function. It means that
traditional music supports a culture in which
this music is played. It also reflects the
characteristics of people on that area. while the
modern music focuses on how the music

music at the Chicago Music College and was
influenced by the musical styles of Schoenberg,
Hindemith and Stravinsky.

European romanticism with chromaticism.
His compositions contain hazy tones,
dissonance and unusual chordal
combinations. Although a 20th century
modern composer in style, he is also
considered a composer in the Romantic

Santa Maria, Bulacan in 1929 and studied
music at the University of Santo Tomas, the
Centro Escolar University and the Gregorian
Institute. His career brought him teaching
appointments at the Philippine Women’s
University, St. Scholastica’s College and at
the Centro Escolar University, where he
became Dean of Music at the conservatory.

among many other honours, received the

graduated in 1932 with a Teacher's Diploma in
Music, major in Science and Composition and
became an assistant instructor at the
Conservatory.
