The earliest form of combining music with visuals was in 1894 when publishers projected images on a screen to promote the song "The Little Lost Child" playing in the background. This illustrated song format became a popular form of entertainment and represented the first step toward music videos. The world's first official music video was "Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles, which was shown on television in 1981 and helped launch the new MTV music channel on August 1st of that year.
