THE LORD OF THE
RINGS
PROLOGUE
In the Second Age of Middle-earth, the lords of Elves, Dwarves, and Men are given Rings of
Power. Unbeknownst to them, the Dark Lord Sauron forges the One Ring in Mount Doom,
infusing into it a great part of his power to dominate, through it and at a distance, the other
Rings, so he might conquer Middle-earth. A final alliance of men and elves battles Sauron’s
forces in Mordor, where Prince Isildur of Gondor severs Sauron's finger, and the Ring with it,
thereby destroying his physical form. With Sauron's first defeat, the Third Age of Middle-earth
begins. Unfortunately, the Ring's influence corrupts Isildur, and, rather than destroy the Ring,
Isildur takes it for himself. Isildur is later killed by Orcs, and the Ring is lost for 2,500 years, until
it is found by Gollum, who owns it for five centuries. The Ring is then found by a Hobbit named
Bilbo Baggins.
Sixty years later, Bilbo celebrates his 111th birthday in the Shire, reuniting with his old friend,
Gandalf the Grey. Bilbo reveals that he intends to leave the Shire for one last adventure, and he
leaves his inheritance, including the Ring, to his nephew, Frodo. Although Bilbo has begun to
become corrupted by the Ring and tries to keep it for himself, Gandalf intervenes. Gandalf,
suspicious of the Ring, tells Frodo to keep it secret and to keep it safe. Gandalf then investigates
the Ring, discovers its true identity, and returns to warn Frodo. Gandalf also learns that Gollum
was tortured by Orcs, and that Gollum uttered two words during his torture: "Shire" and
"Baggins." Gandalf instructs Frodo to leave the Shire, accompanied by his gardener Samwise
Gamgee. As they evaded by the Ringwraiths, escape and finaly arrived in Bree, where they are
meant to meet Gandalf. However, Gandalf never arrives, and they are instead aided by a ranger
named Strider, a friend of Gandalf's, who escorts them to Rivendell.
.
The Hill at Bag-End, home Frodo Baggins. Gandalf rides to Isengard to
meet with fellow wizard Saruman the White, but learns that he has joined
forces with Sauron, who has unleashed the Ringwraiths to find Frodo.
After a brief battle, Saruman imprisons Gandalf. Frodo and Sam are
joined by fellow Hobbits Merry and Pippin
In fact, the One Ring which rules them all.
Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne

One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them

which they were met by Nazgul. Gildor Inglorion and his company of
elves arrive and frighten them off.

Frodo and Sam are joined by fellow Hobbits Merry and Pippin, and they
evade the Ringwraiths, arriving in Bree, where they are meant to meet
Gandalf. However, Gandalf never arrives, and they are instead aided by a
ranger named Strider, a friend of Gandalf's, who escorts them to
Rivendell.
The Dark Riders have been searching for the Baggins with the Ring for
some time.
Luthien Tinuviel. Her parents are Melian the Maia, Queen of the Grey-
elves, and Kin Thingol. She faded from the world when she took mortal
Beren, son of Barahir. The fate of Luthien and Beren are tied up with
the the fate of the Silmarils.
And in the glade a light was seen Of stars in shadow shimmering.
Tinuviel was dancing there To music of a pipe unseen, And light of stars
was in her hair, And in her raiment glimmering.
While in the company of Strider, Frodo, Merry and Pippen meet three
trolls from the past.
"Strider walked forward unconcernedly, 'Get up, old stone!' he said, and
broke his stick upon the stooping troll.”
This is where Elrond lives and where the Last Homely House east of the
Sea and west of the mountains is located. B. Baggins and F. Baggins
spent time on several occasions here.
Arwen’s father, Lord Elrond, holds a council that decides the Ring must
be destroyed in Mount Doom. While the members argue, Frodo
volunteers to take the Ring, accompanied by Gandalf, Sam, Merry,
Pippin, elf Legolas, dwarf Gimli, Boromir of Gondor, and Strider, who is
revealed to be Aragorn, Isildur’s heir and the rightful King of Gondor
The Redhorn Pass (AKA The Pass of Caradhras) is one of three passes
over the Misty Mountains.
The Fellowship of the Ring in Moria. .
After losing to the anger of the mountain, the Fellowship of the Ring
must travel through Moria. “Well, here we are at last!' said Gandalf.
'Here the Elven-way from Hollin ended. Holly was the token of the people
of the land, and they planted it here to mark the end of their domain; for
the West-door was made chiefly for their use in their traffic with the Lords
of Moria. Those were happier days, when there was still close friendship
at times between folk of different race, even between Dwarves and Elves.
The Lothlorien, in particular, Cerin Amroth. The yellow flowers would be
elanor.
The Dimrill Stair and Mirrormere beyond, the passes through the Misty
mountains.
As guests in the Golden Wood, Sam and Frodo look into the Galadriel's
mirror to what they will. "The air was very still, and the dell was dark,
and the Elf-lady beside him tall and pale. 'What shall we look for, and
what shall we see?' asked Frodo, filled with awe."
Frodo goes off by himself to think. "The little upland lawn was open upon
the East and filled now with the early sunlight. Frodo halted and looked
out over the River, far below him, to Tol Brandir and the birds wheeling in
the great gulf of air between him and the untrodden isle."
The chase between Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas and the orcs who killed
Boromir and took Merry and Pippen.
Merry and Pippin in Fangorn wood after escaping from the orcs.
Treebeard doubts..
Still chasing after the hobbits, Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas also enter
Fangorn wood.”Then what shall we do now?' said Gimli. 'We cannot
pursue them through the fastness of Fangorn. We have come ill supplied.
If we do not find them soon, we shall be of no use to them, except to sit
down beside them and show our friendship by starving together.”
The Golden Hall. After hard travel, Gandalf the White, Gimli, Legolas
and Aragorn arrive at Meduseld.

Theoden, King of the Mark, retreats to Helm's Deep and the Battle of the
Hornburg begins. .
The empty river Isen after the Ents diverted it to flood Isengard and the
Orthanc.
The Orthanc after it was flooded. Grima Wormtongue is shown at the
bottom of the stair. .
On the way to destroy the One Ring, Sam and Frodo are met by Smeagol.
On this particular occasion, Smeagol is being held by Sam in an
unfortunate position. .
Frodo and Sam travel to many nasty and fell places. There travellin

The siege of Gondor.
Gathering for battle, the forces of the West meet on battle with that of the
East."Stern now was Eomer's mood, and his mind clear again. He let
blow the horns to rally all men to his banner that could come thither; for
he thought to make a great shield-wall at the last, and stand, and fight
there on foot till all fell, and do deeds of song on the fields of Pelennor,
thought no man should be left in the West to remember the last King of
the Mark."
The Witch King of Angamr after the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. .
The Dark Tower in Mordor.
Sam and Frodo must pass through Cirth Ungol to enter Mordor. "In the
dreadful light Sam stood aghast, for not, looking to his left, he could see
the Tower of Cirith Ungol in all its strength."
The Orcs.
The mountain Doom.
"He looked back, and then he looked up; and he was amazed to see how
far his last effort had brought him. The Mountain standing ominous and
alone had looked taller than it is."
The swan ships, in particular those of Cirdan the shipwright. It
illustrates the depth of feeling that the Elves have for the sea. .
The White Tree in the court at Minas Tirith. It would appear to have
leaves, thus this is the white tree that Aragorn planted.

The Elves departure from Middle Earth, following the spiritual summons
of the Valar.
Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippen on their trip back to the Shire. They
seemed to have discovered that something is amiss. One can not miss the
trees which are chopped down and the smoke rising from the Mill.
