The document summarizes a study on college students' perceptions of an Internet public library (IPL). The study used qualitative analysis of interviews with 10 college students, some familiar with the IPL and some not. It aimed to understand the public perception of what an IPL should be and what services it should offer. Key findings included that participants wanted the IPL to contain both online and physical resources, with connections to local libraries, and desired user-friendly search tools and assistance. However, the small sample size means results may not be generalizable to other groups.

Diffusion of Latent Semantic Analysis as a Research Tool: A Social Network An...Yasar Tonta
Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) is a relatively new research tool with a wide range of applications in different
fields ranging from discourse analysis to cognitive science, from information retrieval to machine learning and
so on. In this paper, we chart the development and diffusion of LSA as a research tool using Social Network
Analysis (SNA) approach that reveals the social structure of a discipline in terms of collaboration among
scientists. Using Thomson Reuters’ Web of Science (WoS), we identified 65 papers with “Latent Semantic
Analysis” in their titles and 250 papers in their topics (but not in titles) between 1990 and 2008. We then
analyzed those papers using bibliometric and SNA techniques such as co-authorship and cluster analysis. It
appears that as the emphasis moves from the research tool (LSA) itself to its applications in different fields,
citations to papers with LSA in their titles tend to decrease. The productivity of authors fits Lotka’s Law while
the network of authors is quite loose. Networks of journals cited in papers with LSA in their titles and topics are
well connected.
The Tail Wagging the Dog? The Impact of Removing Infrequently Used Journal Ti...Yasar Tonta
The document analyzes usage data from three journal databases licensed by a Turkish university consortium to determine the impact of removing infrequently used journal titles. It finds that removing even 30% of the least used titles has almost no effect on the core journals list for the consortium or its member universities. A small number of journals become less accessible, but individual download requests could still be met through pay-per-view options. The findings suggest consortial licensing models should account for stable core lists even when removing titles from the tail end of usage.

Future of Libraries in the Internet Age "Services of PASTIC in Internet Age"Syed Jaffri
PASTIC is Pakistan's national scientific and technical documentation center established in 1957. It provides various information services to support research including an online bibliographic database, document delivery, and trainings. With the rise of the internet, PASTIC has adapted many of its services to the digital age such as hosting an online library catalog and providing current awareness notifications via email. Usage of PASTIC's online resources has increased significantly from 2010 to 2013 as researchers have more access to information through the internet.
Future of Libraries in the Internet AgeSyed Jaffri
PASTIC provides various services to support libraries and information access in the internet age, including hosting web pages, current awareness services, online databases, and access to catalogs. It was established in 1957 and aims to support areas like agriculture, animal sciences, biochemistry, chemistry, earth sciences, engineering, mathematics, medicine, plant sciences, and physics. Terkko Online provides content, tools, and services for medical customers. It is responsible for the electronic information services at Terkko, including customizing, updating, and integrating resources as well as promoting new digital services. Some key services and tools mentioned include Medic (a Finnish health sciences database), MyTerkko (a personal library interface), FeedNavigator (an RSS feed service), mobile applications, social media integration, reference management via RefWorks, and various search and collaboration tools.
The document reports on research into the intrinsic value of libraries as public spaces in the digital age. It finds that while library users regularly visit physical library spaces, they are less satisfied with their online library experience compared to physical spaces. The research surveyed nearly 600 library users across several countries about their use of and satisfaction with online and physical library services. It also interviewed librarians about the challenges of digital change. Key findings include that users want an easier to use online experience from libraries that is on par with other digital services, and that libraries need to better communicate their role in the physical-digital space to remain relevant to communities.
This document discusses how electronic communication technologies have impacted scientific publishing and whether they have lived up to their promises. It examines several promises around electronic publishing, including:
1) The promise of a paperless and wireless society has not been fully realized, as paper publications are still widely used and wireless access is not universally available.
2) While electronic access to scientific information has expanded, not all content is available digitally and concerns remain around digital preservation and future access.
3) Subscription costs have not dropped as much as expected, as libraries still maintain print collections and deal with bundling of content from publishers.
4) Organizing the large amount of available information remains a challenge.

e-infrastructures supporting open knowledge circulation - OpenAIRE FranceJean-François Lutz
This document discusses e-infrastructures that support open access to scientific knowledge and data. It notes that science is becoming more collaborative globally and data-driven. E-infrastructures provide crucial enabling technologies for open data sharing, scientific workflows, and virtual collaborations. Future steps include further promoting open access policies and ensuring the long-term preservation and reuse of publicly-funded research outputs and data.
The document discusses how high-speed broadband internet access can help libraries expand their services and remain relevant community institutions. It provides examples of how libraries currently offer digital resources and technology access to patrons. With fiber connectivity, libraries could further expand access to online content, enhance online communications and learning opportunities, and help create new jobs and small businesses in their communities. However, libraries also face ongoing challenges to funding, training, and encouraging technology adoption.
Assessment Of The Use Of Electronic Resources Among Administrators And Facult...Renee Lewis
This document summarizes a study that assessed the use of electronic resources among administrators and faculty at the University of Cape Coast in Ghana. It found that while faculty were generally aware of electronic resources and used the internet frequently for academic purposes, their usage of the library's online academic databases was low. This was largely due to lack of awareness about which databases the library subscribed to. The study recommends that the library increase awareness efforts through workshops and other programs to promote greater use of its electronic resources.
This document discusses the ethics of increasing automation and the evolving knowledge infrastructure. It notes challenges around trusting automated analysis with no human in the loop, and understanding complex and evolving data sources. Breakout groups are proposed to discuss interventions for improving research quality, issues around reproducibility with different data types, and the impact of large online data on reproducibility in social sciences. The document references challenges around safety vs security, and tradeoffs between hardening systems and adaptive response.
The role of research libraries in a European e-science environmentWouter Schallier
This document discusses the role of research libraries in supporting e-science, which involves large-scale computing, data-intensive research conducted over the internet in collaborative and distributed teams. E-science requires new strategies for research support through integrated infrastructures. Are Digital Audiobooks Truly Ear Resistiblejenpost87
The document discusses the history and rise of digital audiobooks. It notes that digital audiobooks have grown to comprise 21% of the audiobook market and that over 1 in 4 U.S. citizens listen to audiobooks. Digital audiobooks provide benefits such as being convenient and accessible anywhere, but also raise questions about intellectual engagement and the costs libraries take on to support digital services. Overall, the document argues that while digital audiobooks are convenient, their impact on reading habits remains unclear.
Scratchpads are virtual research environments that allow taxonomic and biodiversity data to be collected, curated, analyzed, published, and shared in a digital, open, and linked manner. They provide a seamless workflow for data by hosting websites for communities to enter and structure data using standardized modules. This facilitates dissemination of research through open access publishing of datasets, descriptions, keys, and more without reformatting. Major projects like e-Monocot demonstrate Scratchpads' ability to aggregate data from various sources into an integrated portal.

The sheer volume of information and the speed at which it is being created online is one of the focal points of the IFLA Trend Report. The IFLA Trend Report is the result of twelve months’ consultation with experts and stakeholders from a range of disciplines to explore and discuss emerging trends in our new information environment. It is not a static report, but a dynamic and evolving set of online resources for library and information professionals to contribute to at trends.ifla.org. There’s a great depth of data already on the online platform for libraries to use, share and build on, including a bibliography and literature review of existing trend reports, expert papers and discussion summaries.

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like

Changes in vegetation cover refer to variations in the distribution, composition, and overall
structure of plant communities across different temporal and spatial scales. These changes can
occur natural.
