The Iliad by Homer recounts the events near the end of the Trojan War. It describes Achilles' withdrawal from battle after a dispute with Agamemnon over a slave girl. Without Achilles, the Greeks begin to lose the war as Hector and the Trojans push them back to their ships. After Hector kills Patroclus, Achilles' beloved friend, Achilles returns to battle seeking revenge against Hector. Achilles eventually kills Hector in single combat, dragging his body behind his chariot.
