IBM and SAP:
Simplify. Innovate. Transform.
2
The organizational separation between
traditional business functions and IT is
disappearing. To innovate, your enterprise
must find better ways to integrate new
technologies with core organizational
systems and functions.
Because social media and other digital interactions will soon overshadow more tradi-
tional face-to-face interactions, IT will become even more critical to lines of business.
The growing volume of customer data will allow you to focus more on customers as
individuals rather than as broad market segments.
As a result of these changes, over the next few years CxOs have to prepare for
massive changes in how their enterprises will engage with customers. The emerging
hyper-connected economy will drive increased organizational openness as opposed
to operational control—leading to increasing value being placed on collaboration and
calibrating each customer’s experience to their needs.

Shared agenda of CxOs
IBM knows what SAP clients require because they go to the source—the clients
themselves. For decades, IBM has been running SAP applications for clients. And for
years, IBM has been surveying business leaders worldwide to discover and validate
what keeps them awake at night. Questions like, “What do you see as your greatest
challenges moving forward?” and “What actions are planned as a result?” provide
deep insights into the minds of global CxOs from a wide cross-section of industries.
The latest studies highlight a striking trend—CxO agendas are converging.
Regardless of industry or operating locations, CxOs are beginning to visualize the
world similarly, with a focus on how technology can accelerate enterprise growth
and bottom line results.
“We chose to test IBM Power Systems for SAP HANA because we feel that
it gives us enough performance, power and flexibility to fulfill our customer
needs, and is also very cost-effective. The solution offers faster and easier
data access, enabling us to provide a service to customers that is both
high-quality and affordable.”
—Helmut Krcmar, Professor of Information Systems at the Technische Universität München and Academic Director of the
SAP University Competence Center, Technische Universität München
IBM and SAP have joined forces in significant business areas to help CxOs take
advantage of this strong partnership.
SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud (HEC) on IBM® Cloud: SAP selected IBM as a
premier strategic provider of cloud infrastructure services for its business-critical
applications—accelerating customers’ ability to run core business in the cloud.
The SAP HEC offering is now available on the highly scalable, open and secure
IBM Cloud. SAP HEC will expand to major markets with the addition of the IBM cloud
data centers. This enables customers to deploy their SAP software in a faster and
more secure environment that is backed by proven IBM cloud capabilities.
IBM and SAP: Simplify. Innovate. Transform.
SAP HANA general availability on IBM Power Systems™: Built on the long
history of SAP and IBM bringing innovation to the enterprise, SAP announced on
21 August 2015 the general availability of SAP HANA on IBM Power Systems. SAP
HANA on IBM Power Systems is supported for customers running SAP Business
Warehouse on IBM Power Systems. This solution is available on SUSE Linux, for
configurations initially scaling up to 3 TB. This is available within the tailored data

implementation of applications through ongoing management. IBM provides
world-leading technology infrastructure to help SAP clients make the most of their
SAP investments by providing a robust and secure infrastructure platform for
SAP software.
Enterprise agility
To innovate, an enterprise must apply cloud and analytics tools with agility to enable
rapid organizational shifts. Working closely with SAP to offer a more holistic service,
IBM has developed an industrialized delivery model that brings execution speed and
subject matter expertise to every engagement. IBM’s line-of-business solutions for
SAP—on-premises or on cloud—coupled with IBM implementation services and
IBM technology support, provide deep business value, quick implementation,
rationalized cost and optimized performance.

For decades, IBM and SAP have worked together to find new ways to help clients
take advantage of information assets and insights to build a business that can
outpace their competition. From enabling businesses to focus on customers as
individuals, to establishing the enterprise systems and processes that support
organizational transformations, the alliance has helped customers harness the
power of information.
The IBM and SAP alliance achieves these goals with joint solutions that are
delivered quickly, cost-effectively and with minimal risk to organizations, regardless
of size. These solutions may streamline business processes with support from
high-performance enterprise applications and systems. They could also help execute
a mobile strategy that allows access to information and SAP systems from the field,
transforming the nature of how enterprise computing generates value for the entire
organization. Or they might be a fresh combination of analytics power and existing
enterprise data that raises performance to new heights.
No matter the specific solution, SAP brings the knowledge of building advanced
business processes, as well as the leading application software to enable them.
IBM then complements these SAP contributions with a deep understanding of
business innovation, breakthrough technologies, transformative strategies and the
supporting infrastructure technology required for success in a shifting environment.
As a trusted advisor, IBM is uniquely positioned to guide your deployment from the
beginning or help you transition an existing deployment to a traditional on-premises,
cloud or optimized hybrid environment for your SAP workloads. And based on your
specific requirements, IBM can propose the right mix of IBM and SAP technologies to
best meet your needs and constraints.
7IBM and SAP: Simplify. Innovate. Transform.
Mine the hidden value of big data
Leading organizations are seeking deeper insights than those they are able to derive
from structured database tables. They are analyzing and extracting valuable informa-
tion from the streaming unstructured data that is generated by everyday events.
More importantly, these organizations are integrating analytics into the way they work.
They act on insights extracted from that unstructured data—customer preferences,
patient outcomes or process inefficiencies, for example—in real time to gain a
competitive advantage in the market.
“The private cloud solution on IBM Power servers implemented by IBM Global
Technology Services without disruptions for our business users provides
49 percent faster response times and has doubled our compute capacity,
preparing LEONI for future growth.”
—Bernhard Pluhatsch - Vice President Information Technology, Leoni
The IBM and SAP alliance team can help maximize the bottom line value of all of
your data with business analytics solutions from IBM and SAP. The alliance does
this by helping you:
• Acquire data from any source, such as social media feeds or online transactions.
• Accelerate data access to enable accurate, timely decisions.
• Analyze and understand what the data reveals about past, current and
future events.
8 IBM and SAP: Simplify. Innovate. Transform.
Using the robust IBM and SAP enterprise platform as the foundation for extended
solutions, you can take advantage of previously unrecognized opportunities that
in-depth business intelligence reveals. Through decades of working together,
IBM and SAP have captured best practices—such as detailed development road-
maps and reference architectures for a number of industries, along with preconfig-
ured and optimized application suites—that can give you a faster time to value.
“We were impressed that IBM was able to organize the Proof-of-Concept
which convinced us that SAP migration to DB2 was not a risky option.
Combined with the virtualization capabilities and performance of the IBM DB2
servers for SAP environment we decided that our strategic platform for SAP
should be DB2 and IBM Power Systems.”
—Markus Wierl, Service Owner SAP Infrastructure, AUDI AG
The alliance’s combined portfolio spans a wide array of business management
activities and a variety of IBM and SAP technology components—from traditional
ERP applications to customer and supplier relationships, contract lifecycles,
transportation, warehousing and beyond. And because many of the joint technology
solutions are also available as cloud-based services, deployment can be simplified
and capital investment can be reduced.
9IBM and SAP: Simplify. Innovate. Transform.
Exploit the power of analytics
“The integration of the
mobile apps with our
SAP ERP application
is key to the success
of the project: it’s
the backbone of our
digital transformation.
The solution gives us
a clear competitive
advantage, and it
closes the loop from
factory to client site.”
—Yan Steinberger, Chief Digital
Officer, Saint-Gobain CPS
Every day, organizations collect valuable data on everything from customers to
key performance indicators. Using real-time analytics, a business can discover the
answers to critical strategic and market questions before their competitors, which
can clarify what is happening and why—enabling collaboration so the organization
can act faster and with greater confidence.
This competitive differentiator is often out of reach because it requires the ability to
handle enormous amounts of data quickly and efficiently. The team of SAP experts
at IBM can help your organization realize value by using IBM’s analytics software or
using SAP’s analytics technology, depending on the approach that best satisfies your
unique requirements.
• Customers running SAP Business Warehouse can now run SAP HANA on
IBM Power Systems. This solution is available on SUSE Linux, and is available
within the tailored data center integration (TDI) model, which will enable customers
to leverage their existing investments in infrastructure.
• IBM analytics software offers analytics capabilities across structured and
unstructured data stores, and is a reliable option for many enterprise-level
SAP application deployments. This ability to transparently take advantage of
information keeps your focus where it should be—on running your business.
With a high-quality analytics platform running on high-performance IBM hardware,
data can be accessed, explored, modeled and analyzed in real time, without impact-
ing existing applications or systems. In fact, when combined with IBM hardware,
high-quality analytics will allow queries of billions of records and can deliver answers
to those queries in well under a minute. That makes using information and insights to
accelerate your business not only possible but practical, as well.
10IBM and SAP: Simplify. Innovate. Transform.
One reason for this speed is that IBM Power® hardware helps keep the vital
enterprise data more readily available. For example, the IBM General Parallel
File System (GPFS™) is designed specifically to provide optimal performance,
virtually unlimited scaling and integrated high availability and disaster recovery
features—all vital for mission-critical data and insights. These capabilities make
GPFS the preferred file system for many of the world’s largest supercomputing
implementations, as well as performance-intensive applications.
By combining the performance, scalability and cost-effectiveness of IBM infrastruc-
ture with SAP software in one optimized offering, organizational analytics represent
another example of the value that our collaborative solution development brings
to your business. And this solution can be easily and seamlessly added to any
SAP implementation to deliver a fast ROI.
Further, to help your analytics deployment deliver on the promise of greater insight,
IBM offers dedicated consulting services for SAP clients focused on solving your
real-world business problems. These services are designed to help maximize the use
of your business intelligence by helping you apply it in new and innovative ways.
11IBM and SAP: Simplify. Innovate. Transform.
Enjoy solution scalability and flexibility
Currently, over 500 SAP customers
and thousands of enterprise cloud
customers take advantage of the
USD 2.2 billion IBM investment in
cloud and its 100,000 servers
worldwide.
For many businesses, SAP is the engine that drives crucial financial, operational and
marketing activities. Because it bridges multiple workloads, databases and organiza-
tional units, how you manage these SAP deployments can propel or impede your
organization’s overall success.
Therefore, your ability to maximize an SAP deployment’s capabilities and value,
while simultaneously minimizing the TCO, has a major impact on your organization’s
bottom line. A cloud-based SAP infrastructure has the flexibility to achieve these
simultaneous goals, along with the power to scale. Despite this power and the
potential cost savings, many organizations are reluctant to embrace the possibilities
of a cloud-based SAP deployment.
There are two basic reasons for this reluctance. Often, a cloud partner focuses
strictly on the infrastructure layer, leasing raw compute capacity while leaving full
application layer management responsibility with the customer. This places a tremen-
dous amount of responsibility—and the accompanying risks and costs—on the cus-
tomer. Or, the partner may be a third-party consultant with no vested interest in the
infrastructure, which can increase the customer’s compatibility and operational risks.
It is possible to address the risks of both options—when you choose the right
provider and the right partner. IBM has the proven capabilities to be that provider
and partner. The combined industry expertise of IBM and SAP, coupled with
IBM consulting and cloud services, can help boost sales system agility and revenue
generation and improve operational efficiencies, as well as increase safety and
security, all while reducing costs and customer impacts.
Scale your SAP applications with the cloud
Cloud-based computing offers scalability for everything from enterprise-level data
storage, access and analysis to collaborative application and service development
and deployment. Yet questions remain about operational and security impacts.
As an SAP Certified cloud provider, IBM offers a vast portfolio of cloud computing
options depending upon your needs. Offerings range from IBM Cloud Managed
Services for SAP applications for large databases and high-performance storage
to IBM Automated Modular Management on SoftLayer® for smaller SAP database
sizes. So, whatever your needs IBM has an offering that can give you SAP applica-
tions tuned for faster provisioning, greater flexibility and lower risk of data compro-
mise—while providing integrated and seamless management across architectures
and delivery models.
Secure mobile collaboration for organizational flexibility
Driven by employees and their personal devices, mobility and pervasive collaboration
represents a rare chance to dramatically improve both productivity and agility,
but only if you can securely integrate and support these devices into your business.
The combination of IBM infrastructure and SAP NetWeaver Gateway can help
build the critical link from your enterprise systems to mobile and collaborative
computing by enabling direct access to SAP applications from the field. This marks
a fundamental shift in the way these devices are used—generating business value,
as well as spreading information and enabling actions across the internal and
external value chain.
Benefit from IBM’s extensive business
experience
Whether your aim is to uncover hidden insights from big data, foster enterprise
collaboration from any location or enhance your core financial, operational and
marketing activities, getting the right SAP implementation is not an “off-the-shelf”
endeavor. Successful deployments require intimate knowledge of SAP offerings,
combined with deep technology expertise, global business transformation experi-
ence and extensive industry knowledge.
Because few organizations are large enough to possess this diverse skill set inhouse,
CxOs often look for outside assistance. For a partnership with so much at stake, five
questions become crucial to determining the right partner:
• Whom do I trust to lead me through this process?
• Who has the expertise to simplify the technology for me?
• Who can help me make the right technology choices for my organization?
• Who can create the most immediate access to the next important innovation?
• Who can partner with me to drive business transformation?
IBM Global Business Services provides access to some of the industry’s
foremost SAP experts who know SAP applications inside and out. From core
business platform and database expertise to in-depth knowledge of extracting
business value from data analytics to building and deploying mobile applications,
Global Business Services consultants are dedicated to helping you deploy the
SAP solution best suited to innovating and transforming your business, processes
and workflows. In addition, Global Business Services can extend your SAP deploy-
ment by taking advantage of exclusive industry mobile apps from the IBM and
Apple partnership, as well as services from IBM Interactive Experience, which spans
experience design, industry consulting and unprecedented access to Twitter data.
14 IBM and SAP: Simplify. Innovate. Transform.
Take advantage of IBM’s technology
leadership for SAP solutions
Maximizing platform performance to obtain quicker insights is vital to competing
in today’s business environment. However, if you are an SAP customer looking to
implement new hardware, add new capacity or move from on-premises to the cloud,
the array of technology choices can be overwhelming.
So the challenge for your IT organization is to use techniques that rapidly
process multi-terabytes of data to create the immediate insights your business needs.
Fortunately, the high-performance IBM infrastructure components, such as DB2 and
Power, which are optimized for SAP applications, are engineered to deliver on the
three critical system expectations:
• Fast: IBM technology provides breakthrough performance for your SAP environ-
ment. It can reduce the traditional days and hours of processing time down to
minutes and seconds. You can analyze more data more efficiently than ever before
to uncover insights for growing revenue, reducing cost and lowering risk.
• Simple: With ready-to-use performance for your SAP environment, IBM solutions
deliver the ultimate in operational simplicity. This makes it easier to meet evolving
information needs and enables IT resources to focus on innovation instead of
routine maintenance.
• Agile: Analytical platform components for SAP offer true business agility,
enabling more flexible business response through a choice of on-premises or
cloud deployment options. You can better optimize resources, increase return
on investment and improve agility.
Further, IBM DB2 is SAP-optimized for faster analysis of critical information on
both Intel and Power platforms. SAP has recently extended support for DB2 to run
SAP Business Suite until 2025, providing you with a viable, long-term choice for your
SAP solution’s foundational database. With decades of collaborative SAP migration
experiences, IBM’s SAP-certified migration consultants have successfully migrated
tens of thousands of SAP instances to DB2, including on premises, in the cloud
or both.
15IBM and SAP: Simplify. Innovate. Transform.
Capitalize on IBM’s technical expertise
While capital expenditures (CAPEX) often grab attention, every CxO recognizes that
operational expenditures (OPEX) almost always define the long-term success of
a technology deployment. And the more complex the technology deployment,
the larger OPEX becomes as a percentage of lifecycle costs. This business fact is
especially true for SAP implementations, because of the cross-organizational and
transformative nature of most deployments.
Maximizing the power of your SAP deployment requires mastering the complex
interactions between the hardware and software technology, the IT operational
structure and processes, and the business processes benefiting from the actual
deployment. With over 20 years of experience in 160 countries, IBM Global
Technology Services® possesses the technology expertise to help you implement
and optimize your SAP deployment with SAP migration assistance, cloud service
offerings and after-sales service, including integration of non-SAP workloads.
As an example, IBM Cloud Managed Services for SAP Applications is designed to
deliver your SAP environment on an enterprise-class managed cloud infrastructure
that is security-rich, cost-effective and scalable. This helps you avoid hardware costs,
while gaining the flexibility and scalability of cloud, at service agreement levels
of 97.5 - 99.95 percent uptime, depending on your needs. And IBM’s skilled
SAP specialists manage the platform and databases so you can focus on innovation,
while on-demand provisioning of SAP software and self-service capabilities enable
you to accelerate the delivery of SAP services for faster time to value.
16 IBM and SAP: Simplify. Innovate. Transform.

The IBM and SAP Partnership

  • 2. 2 The organizational separation between traditional business functions and IT is disappearing. To innovate, your enterprise must find better ways to integrate new technologies with core organizational systems and functions. Because social media and other digital interactions will soon overshadow more tradi- tional face-to-face interactions, IT will become even more critical to lines of business. The growing volume of customer data will allow you to focus more on customers as individuals rather than as broad market segments. As a result of these changes, over the next few years CxOs have to prepare for massive changes in how their enterprises will engage with customers. The emerging hyper-connected economy will drive increased organizational openness as opposed to operational control—leading to increasing value being placed on collaboration and calibrating each customer’s experience to their needs. IBM and SAP: Simplify. Innovate. Transform.
  • 3. 3 Shared agenda of CxOs IBM knows what SAP clients require because they go to the source—the clients themselves. For decades, IBM has been running SAP applications for clients. And for years, IBM has been surveying business leaders worldwide to discover and validate what keeps them awake at night. Questions like, “What do you see as your greatest challenges moving forward?” and “What actions are planned as a result?” provide deep insights into the minds of global CxOs from a wide cross-section of industries. The latest studies highlight a striking trend—CxO agendas are converging. Regardless of industry or operating locations, CxOs are beginning to visualize the world similarly, with a focus on how technology can accelerate enterprise growth and bottom line results. “We chose to test IBM Power Systems for SAP HANA because we feel that it gives us enough performance, power and flexibility to fulfill our customer needs, and is also very cost-effective. The solution offers faster and easier data access, enabling us to provide a service to customers that is both high-quality and affordable.” —Helmut Krcmar, Professor of Information Systems at the Technische Universität München and Academic Director of the SAP University Competence Center, Technische Universität München IBM and SAP have joined forces in significant business areas to help CxOs take advantage of this strong partnership. SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud (HEC) on IBM® Cloud: SAP selected IBM as a premier strategic provider of cloud infrastructure services for its business-critical applications—accelerating customers’ ability to run core business in the cloud. The SAP HEC offering is now available on the highly scalable, open and secure IBM Cloud. SAP HEC will expand to major markets with the addition of the IBM cloud data centers. This enables customers to deploy their SAP software in a faster and more secure environment that is backed by proven IBM cloud capabilities. IBM and SAP: Simplify. Innovate. Transform.
  • 4. SAP HANA general availability on IBM Power Systems™: Built on the long history of SAP and IBM bringing innovation to the enterprise, SAP announced on 21 August 2015 the general availability of SAP HANA on IBM Power Systems. SAP HANA on IBM Power Systems is supported for customers running SAP Business Warehouse on IBM Power Systems. This solution is available on SUSE Linux, for configurations initially scaling up to 3 TB. This is available within the tailored data center integration (TDI) model, which will enable customers to leverage their existing investments in infrastructure. “One of the many aspects of the SAP offering that impressed us was the ability to run analytics reports using lightning-speed in-memory technology. With point-of-sale data flowing directly from SAP ERP applications into data warehouses on the SAP HANA platform, we can offer our decision-makers deeper insights faster than ever before.” —Gürol Sungun, SAP Project Manager at CarrefourSA IBM Global Business Services® consulting for S/4HANA and SAP SaaS solutions: IBM Global Business Services is a strong consulting and implementation partner to SAP in the emerging S/4HANA space for enterprise customers. IBM Global Business Services and SAP help CxOs innovate in critical line-of-business areas like human capital management with SuccessFactors or customer engagement commerce with Hybris and Ariba. The IBM and SAP alliance achieves these goals with joint solutions that are delivered quickly, cost-effectively and with minimal risk to organizations, regardless of size. These solutions may streamline business processes with support from high-performance enterprise applications and systems. They could also help execute a mobile strategy that allows access to information and SAP systems from the field, transforming the nature of how enterprise computing generates value for the entire organization. Or they might be a fresh combination of analytics power and existing enterprise data that raises performance to new heights. No matter the specific solution, SAP brings the knowledge of building advanced business processes, as well as the leading application software to enable them. IBM then complements these SAP contributions with a deep understanding of business innovation, breakthrough technologies, transformative strategies and the supporting infrastructure technology required for success in a shifting environment. As a trusted advisor, IBM is uniquely positioned to guide your deployment from the beginning or help you transition an existing deployment to a traditional on-premises, cloud or optimized hybrid environment for your SAP workloads. • 7. 7IBM and SAP: Simplify. Innovate. Transform. Mine the hidden value of big data Leading organizations are seeking deeper insights than those they are able to derive from structured database tables. They are analyzing and extracting valuable informa- tion from the streaming unstructured data that is generated by everyday events. More importantly, these organizations are integrating analytics into the way they work. They act on insights extracted from that unstructured data—customer preferences, patient outcomes or process inefficiencies, for example—in real time to gain a competitive advantage in the market. “The private cloud solution on IBM Power servers implemented by IBM Global Technology Services without disruptions for our business users provides 49 percent faster response times and has doubled our compute capacity, preparing LEONI for future growth.” —Bernhard Pluhatsch - Vice President Information Technology, Leoni The IBM and SAP alliance team can help maximize the bottom line value of all of your data with business analytics solutions from IBM and SAP. The alliance does this by helping you: • Acquire data from any source, such as social media feeds or online transactions. • Accelerate data access to enable accurate, timely decisions. • Analyze and understand what the data reveals about past, current and future events.
  • 8. 8 IBM and SAP: Simplify. Innovate. Transform. Using the robust IBM and SAP enterprise platform as the foundation for extended solutions, you can take advantage of previously unrecognized opportunities that in-depth business intelligence reveals. Through decades of working together, IBM and SAP have captured best practices—such as detailed development road- maps and reference architectures for a number of industries, along with preconfig- ured and optimized application suites—that can give you a faster time to value. “We were impressed that IBM was able to organize the Proof-of-Concept which convinced us that SAP migration to DB2 was not a risky option. Combined with the virtualization capabilities and performance of the IBM DB2 servers for SAP environment we decided that our strategic platform for SAP should be DB2 and IBM Power Systems.” —Markus Wierl, Service Owner SAP Infrastructure, AUDI AG The alliance’s combined portfolio spans a wide array of business management activities and a variety of IBM and SAP technology components—from traditional ERP applications to customer and supplier relationships, contract lifecycles, transportation, warehousing and beyond. And because many of the joint technology solutions are also available as cloud-based services, deployment can be simplified and capital investment can be reduced.
  • 9. 9IBM and SAP: Simplify. Innovate. Transform. Exploit the power of analytics “The integration of the mobile apps with our SAP ERP application is key to the success of the project: it’s the backbone of our digital transformation. The solution gives us a clear competitive advantage, and it closes the loop from factory to client site.” —Yan Steinberger, Chief Digital Officer, Saint-Gobain CPS Every day, organizations collect valuable data on everything from customers to key performance indicators. Using real-time analytics, a business can discover the answers to critical strategic and market questions before their competitors, which can clarify what is happening and why—enabling collaboration so the organization can act faster and with greater confidence. This competitive differentiator is often out of reach because it requires the ability to handle enormous amounts of data quickly and efficiently. The team of SAP experts at IBM can help your organization realize value by using IBM’s analytics software or using SAP’s analytics technology, depending on the approach that best satisfies your unique requirements. • Customers running SAP Business Warehouse can now run SAP HANA on IBM Power Systems. This solution is available on SUSE Linux, and is available within the tailored data center integration (TDI) model, which will enable customers to leverage their existing investments in infrastructure. • IBM analytics software offers analytics capabilities across structured and unstructured data stores, and is a reliable option for many enterprise-level SAP application deployments. This ability to transparently take advantage of information keeps your focus where it should be—on running your business. With a high-quality analytics platform running on high-performance IBM hardware, data can be accessed, explored, modeled and analyzed in real time, without impact- ing existing applications or systems. In fact, when combined with IBM hardware, high-quality analytics will allow queries of billions of records and can deliver answers to those queries in well under a minute. That makes using information and insights to accelerate your business not only possible but practical, as well.
  • 10. 10IBM and SAP: Simplify. Innovate. Transform. One reason for this speed is that IBM Power® hardware helps keep the vital enterprise data more readily available. For example, the IBM General Parallel File System (GPFS™) is designed specifically to provide optimal performance, virtually unlimited scaling and integrated high availability and disaster recovery features—all vital for mission-critical data and insights. These capabilities make GPFS the preferred file system for many of the world’s largest supercomputing implementations, as well as performance-intensive applications. By combining the performance, scalability and cost-effectiveness of IBM infrastruc- ture with SAP software in one optimized offering, organizational analytics represent another example of the value that our collaborative solution development brings to your business. And this solution can be easily and seamlessly added to any SAP implementation to deliver a fast ROI. Further, to help your analytics deployment deliver on the promise of greater insight, IBM offers dedicated consulting services for SAP clients focused on solving your real-world business problems. These services are designed to help maximize the use of your business intelligence by helping you apply it in new and innovative ways.
  • 11. 11IBM and SAP: Simplify. Innovate. Transform. Enjoy solution scalability and flexibility Currently, over 500 SAP customers and thousands of enterprise cloud customers take advantage of the USD 2.2 billion IBM investment in cloud and its 100,000 servers worldwide. For many businesses, SAP is the engine that drives crucial financial, operational and marketing activities. Because it bridges multiple workloads, databases and organiza- tional units, how you manage these SAP deployments can propel or impede your organization’s overall success. Therefore, your ability to maximize an SAP deployment’s capabilities and value, while simultaneously minimizing the TCO, has a major impact on your organization’s bottom line. A cloud-based SAP infrastructure has the flexibility to achieve these simultaneous goals, along with the power to scale. Despite this power and the potential cost savings, many organizations are reluctant to embrace the possibilities of a cloud-based SAP deployment. There are two basic reasons for this reluctance. Often, a cloud partner focuses strictly on the infrastructure layer, leasing raw compute capacity while leaving full application layer management responsibility with the customer. This places a tremen- dous amount of responsibility—and the accompanying risks and costs—on the cus- tomer. Or, the partner may be a third-party consultant with no vested interest in the infrastructure, which can increase the customer’s compatibility and operational risks. It is possible to address the risks of both options—when you choose the right provider and the right partner. IBM has the proven capabilities to be that provider and partner. The combined industry expertise of IBM and SAP, coupled with IBM consulting and cloud services, can help boost sales system agility and revenue generation and improve operational efficiencies, as well as increase safety and security, all while reducing costs and customer impacts. Scale your SAP applications with the cloud Cloud-based computing offers scalability for everything from enterprise-level data storage, access and analysis to collaborative application and service development and deployment. Yet questions remain about operational and security impacts.
  • 12. As an SAP Certified cloud provider, IBM offers a vast portfolio of cloud computing options depending upon your needs. Offerings range from IBM Cloud Managed Services for SAP applications for large databases and high-performance storage to IBM Automated Modular Management on SoftLayer® for smaller SAP database sizes. So, whatever your needs IBM has an offering that can give you SAP applica- tions tuned for faster provisioning, greater flexibility and lower risk of data compro- mise—while providing integrated and seamless management across architectures and delivery models. Secure mobile collaboration for organizational flexibility Driven by employees and their personal devices, mobility and pervasive collaboration represents a rare chance to dramatically improve both productivity and agility, but only if you can securely integrate and support these devices into your business. The combination of IBM infrastructure and SAP NetWeaver Gateway can help build the critical link from your enterprise systems to mobile and collaborative computing by enabling direct access to SAP applications from the field. This marks a fundamental shift in the way these devices are used—generating business value, as well as spreading information and enabling actions across the internal and external value chain.
  • 13. Benefit from IBM’s extensive business experience Whether your aim is to uncover hidden insights from big data, foster enterprise collaboration from any location or enhance your core financial, operational and marketing activities, getting the right SAP implementation is not an “off-the-shelf” endeavor. Successful deployments require intimate knowledge of SAP offerings, combined with deep technology expertise, global business transformation experi- ence and extensive industry knowledge. Because few organizations are large enough to possess this diverse skill set inhouse, CxOs often look for outside assistance. For a partnership with so much at stake, five questions become crucial to determining the right partner: • Whom do I trust to lead me through this process? • Who has the expertise to simplify the technology for me? • Who can help me make the right technology choices for my organization? • Who can create the most immediate access to the next important innovation? • Who can partner with me to drive business transformation? IBM Global Business Services provides access to some of the industry’s foremost SAP experts who know SAP applications inside and out. From core business platform and database expertise to in-depth knowledge of extracting business value from data analytics to building and deploying mobile applications, Global Business Services consultants are dedicated to helping you deploy the SAP solution best suited to innovating and transforming your business, processes and workflows. In addition, Global Business Services can extend your SAP deploy- ment by taking advantage of exclusive industry mobile apps from the IBM and Apple partnership, as well as services from IBM Interactive Experience, which spans experience design, industry consulting and unprecedented access to Twitter data.
  • 14. 14 IBM and SAP: Simplify. Innovate. Transform. Take advantage of IBM’s technology leadership for SAP solutions Maximizing platform performance to obtain quicker insights is vital to competing in today’s business environment. However, if you are an SAP customer looking to implement new hardware, add new capacity or move from on-premises to the cloud, the array of technology choices can be overwhelming. So the challenge for your IT organization is to use techniques that rapidly process multi-terabytes of data to create the immediate insights your business needs. Fortunately, the high-performance IBM infrastructure components, such as DB2 and Power, which are optimized for SAP applications, are engineered to deliver on the three critical system expectations: • Fast: IBM technology provides breakthrough performance for your SAP environ- ment. It can reduce the traditional days and hours of processing time down to minutes and seconds. You can analyze more data more efficiently than ever before to uncover insights for growing revenue, reducing cost and lowering risk. • Simple: With ready-to-use performance for your SAP environment, IBM solutions deliver the ultimate in operational simplicity. This makes it easier to meet evolving information needs and enables IT resources to focus on innovation instead of routine maintenance. • Agile: Analytical platform components for SAP offer true business agility, enabling more flexible business response through a choice of on-premises or cloud deployment options. You can better optimize resources, increase return on investment and improve agility. Further, IBM DB2 is SAP-optimized for faster analysis of critical information on both Intel and Power platforms. SAP has recently extended support for DB2 to run SAP Business Suite until 2025, providing you with a viable, long-term choice for your SAP solution’s foundational database. With decades of collaborative SAP migration experiences, IBM’s SAP-certified migration consultants have successfully migrated tens of thousands of SAP instances to DB2, including on premises, in the cloud or both.
  • 15. 15IBM and SAP: Simplify. Innovate. Transform. Capitalize on IBM’s technical expertise While capital expenditures (CAPEX) often grab attention, every CxO recognizes that operational expenditures (OPEX) almost always define the long-term success of a technology deployment. And the more complex the technology deployment, the larger OPEX becomes as a percentage of lifecycle costs. This business fact is especially true for SAP implementations, because of the cross-organizational and transformative nature of most deployments. Maximizing the power of your SAP deployment requires mastering the complex interactions between the hardware and software technology, the IT operational structure and processes, and the business processes benefiting from the actual deployment. With over 20 years of experience in 160 countries, IBM Global Technology Services® possesses the technology expertise to help you implement and optimize your SAP deployment with SAP migration assistance, cloud service offerings and after-sales service, including integration of non-SAP workloads. As an example, IBM Cloud Managed Services for SAP Applications is designed to deliver your SAP environment on an enterprise-class managed cloud infrastructure that is security-rich, cost-effective and scalable. This helps you avoid hardware costs, while gaining the flexibility and scalability of cloud, at service agreement levels of 97.5 - 99.95 percent uptime, depending on your needs. And IBM’s skilled SAP specialists manage the platform and databases so you can focus on innovation, while on-demand provisioning of SAP software and self-service capabilities enable you to accelerate the delivery of SAP services for faster time to value.
  • 16. 16 IBM and SAP: Simplify. Innovate. Transform. Additional deployment resources IBM and SAP recognize the level of commitment an enterprise-level SAP implementa- tion demands.
