2. THE HOLY SPIRIT AT WORK
Romans 8:26-27
‘In the same way, the Spirit helps us in
our weakness. We do not know what
we ought to pray for, but the Spirit
himself intercedes for us through
wordless groans. 27
And he who
searches our hearts knows the mind of
the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes
for God’s people in accordance with
the will of God.’

3. THE HOLY SPIRIT AT WORK
Jeremiah 29:11
‘For I know the plans I have for you,”
declares the LORD, “plans to prosper
you and not to harm you, plans to give
you hope and a future.’

4. THE HOLY SPIRIT AT WORK
The purpose of prayer is to
open your heart and your life
to allow God to do the things
that He wants to do—those
things that He knows are best
for you.

5. THE HOLY SPIRIT AT WORK
“God will not compel you to go
against your will, but He will
sure make you willing to go.”

6. THE HOLY SPIRIT AT WORK
“Your Father knows what you
have need of before you even
ask Him.”

7. THE HOLY SPIRIT AT WORK
John 15:16
‘
You did not choose me, but I chose you
and appointed you so that you might
go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—
and so that whatever you ask in my
name the Father will give you.’

‘… it is God who works in you to will and
to act in order to fulfill his good
purpose.’

Psalm 37:4
‘Take delight in the LORD and he will
give you the desires of your heart.’

‘For the eyes of the LORD range
throughout the earth to strengthen
those whose hearts are fully
committed to him.’

1 John 5:14
‘
This is the confidence we have in
approaching God: that if we ask
anything according to his will, he hears
us. 15
And if we know that he hears us—
whatever we ask—we know that we
have what we asked of him.’

13. THE HOLY SPIRIT AT WORK
When we are praying according
to the will of God, we can pray
in confidence that we have the
answers to those petitions,
because we have now opened
the door for God to do what
He desires to do.

Isaiah 58:8-9
‘My thoughts are nothing like your
thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my
ways are far beyond anything you
could imagine. For just as the heavens
are higher than the earth, so my ways
are higher than your ways and my
thoughts higher than your thoughts.’

And just as well that God
does not answer them!

1 Samuel 1:10-17
‘In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to
the LORD, weeping bitterly. And she
made a vow, saying, “LORD Almighty,
if you will only look on your servant’s
misery and remember me, and not
forget your servant but give her a son,
then I will give him to the LORD for all
the days of his life, and no razor will
ever be used on his head.”…

18. THE HOLY SPIRIT AT WORK
1 Samuel 1:10-17
… As she kept on praying to the LORD, Eli
observed her mouth. Hannah was
praying in her heart, and her lips were
moving but her voice was not heard. Eli
thought she was drunk and said to her,
“How long are you going to stay
drunk? Put away your wine.” …

19. THE HOLY SPIRIT AT WORK
1 Samuel 1:10-17
… “Not so, my lord,” Hannah replied, “I
am a woman who is deeply troubled. I
have not been drinking wine or beer; I
was pouring out my soul to the LORD.
Do not take your servant for a wicked
woman; I have been praying here out
of my great anguish and grief.”…

20. THE HOLY SPIRIT AT WORK
1 Samuel 1:10-17
… Eli answered, “Go in peace, and may
the God of Israel grant you what you
have asked of him.”

21. THE HOLY SPIRIT AT WORK
God had to get a woman
before He could get a man.

22. THE HOLY SPIRIT AT WORK
Now Hannah is in harmony
with the purposes of God.

23. THE HOLY SPIRIT AT WORK
Jude 21
‘But you, dear friends, must build each
other up in your most holy faith, pray
in the power of the Holy Spirit,and
await the mercy of our Lord Jesus
Christ, who will bring you eternal life.
In this way, you will keep yourselves
safe in God’s love.’

24. THE HOLY SPIRIT AT WORK
Ephesians 6:18
‘
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions
with all kinds of prayers and requests.’

25. THE HOLY SPIRIT AT WORK
1 Corinthians 14:2-4
‘…For if you have the ability to speak in
tongues,you will be talking only to
God, since people won’t be able to
understand you. You will be speaking
by the power of the Spirit,but it will all
be mysterious…..A person who speaks
in tongues is strengthened
personally…’

26. THE HOLY SPIRIT AT WORK
1 Corinthians 14:14-18
‘
For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays,
but my mind is unfruitful. So what shall
I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will
also pray with my understanding; I will
sing with my spirit, but I will also sing
with my understanding……I thank God
that I speak in tongues more than all of
you.’

27. THE HOLY SPIRIT AT WORK
First advantage is that you can
be assured that your prayers
are according to the will of
God.

28. THE HOLY SPIRIT AT WORK
Secondly, it eliminates
selfishness as the primary
motive behind our prayers.

29. THE HOLY SPIRIT AT WORK
James 4:3
‘
When you ask, you do not receive,
because you ask with wrong motives,
that you may spend what you get on
your pleasures.’

30. THE HOLY SPIRIT AT WORK
Thirdly, it enables you to pray
for things that you have
forgotten to pray for.

31. THE HOLY SPIRIT AT WORK
Fourthly, it enables us to
express full praise and
thanksgiving which natural
words could never
be able to describe.
