The document discusses the Holy Spirit. It describes how the Holy Spirit is misunderstood and ignored, yet was involved in creation and empowered figures in the Old Testament. At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit filled the disciples with boldness and power. Every Christian has the Holy Spirit, but not all are filled with the Spirit. The document urges readers to be filled with the Spirit by desiring it, asking God for it, and cooperating with the Spirit despite potential hindrances like doubt and fear.
Who is the Holy Spirit? Jesus died to make available to all believers the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is a person part of the Godhead. The Holy Spirit is the Guide, the Helper, the Comforter and the Counselor. He makes available to believers the power and character of Jesus.
If we are serious about possessing what God has promised, we must know that we have the mandate to do so. God’s Word authorises and empowers us to fully possess our inheritance in Christ.
Dr, John Oakes is giving a series of classes on the Holy Spirit for the staff of the San Diego Church of Christ. The first class is on the Role of The Holy Spirit in our Lives. The second is The Holy Spirit in the Book of Acts. These will be followed by classes on The Holy Spirit in the Old Testamentt. Notes and audio are attached.
