Herod the Great tried to have Jesus killed as an infant. When he learned that a king had been born in Bethlehem, he was disturbed and tried to find the child to kill him. He had the Magi search for details but they were warned in a dream not to return to Herod. Joseph was also warned in a dream to flee to Egypt with Jesus to protect him from Herod. Herod Antipas, a tetrarch, was directly involved in the deaths of both John the Baptist and Jesus Christ. He had John imprisoned and questioned Jesus at length during the night before the Crucifixion, mocking him, but Jesus made no answer to his questions.
