King Acrisius was told by an oracle that his daughter Danae would give birth to a grandson who would kill him. He locked Danae away but Zeus visited her disguised as a shower of gold and she conceived Perseus. Acrisius sent them adrift at sea but they survived. Perseus was sent by King Polydectes, who wanted Danae, on a quest to kill Medusa. He obtained powerful gifts from the gods and succeeded in beheading Medusa. On his return, Perseus saved Andromeda from a sea monster and married her. Later, while competing in a discus throw, Perseus accidentally killed his grandfather Acrisius, fulfilling the prophecy.
