I created this presentation on my own time for a "Lightening Talk" at Rosetta. The original presentation had less words, but I've restructured it for Slideshare.
The document discusses the concept of giving and receiving with the heart versus the mind. It states that true giving involves having no expectations of receiving something in return. If a giver later wants what was given returned, they become an "Indian giver" who is taking rather than giving. Nature gives without conditions or expectations. The mind often wants to selfishly receive or take back gifts, whereas true giving comes from the heart without judgments of the receiver. We should focus on unconditional giving from the heart each day rather than expectations of receiving something in return.
The document is a personality game that provides 17 prompts for assigning positive personality traits and a gift to friends. For each prompt, it describes the trait in a positive light and encourages the player to give the gift to the friend they see as embodying that trait the most, such as happy, intelligent, peaceful, and so on. The prompts cover a wide range of personality traits and virtues with the overall message of appreciating qualities in friends.
How Graphic Designers should spend ThanksgivingZillionDesigns
Ahh Thanksgiving.. The time of the year when families get together, have a good time and give thanks for the many blessings they have enjoyed over the year. Unfortunately, a lot of graphic designers especially the freelancing self-managers tend to miss this opportunity to say thanks and celebrate the day in its true spirit. For them life is a fast-moving train and expressions of gratitude oftentimes get left at the station. Here's a revelation, designers can also enjoy Thanksgiving like everyone else. All they need is a little inspiration.

Request to my Landlord for Backyard Chickens in ClevelandNicole Kusold
I created this deck as a way to ask my landlord for permission to have backyard chickens in my rented house in Cleveland. I'm posting this here so that it might provide value to others working thorugh the permitting process. The Cleveland city permit for Chickens and Bees is available here: http://www.clevelandhealth.org/assets/documents/environment/Farm_animal_application-(Chickens-Ducks-Rabbits-Bees).pdf

The document discusses how presentations should move away from being solely PowerPoint slides toward being "slideuments" - a combination of slides and an in-depth document. It notes that slideuments are better suited for situations where the presentation will be distributed without a presenter, such as sending a report via email. Slideuments support and enhance what a presenter is saying but are not distracting. The document also provides tips on using visuals like stock photography and shapes in PowerPoint and challenges the reader to employ new design tactics.

The document discusses 6 common limiting beliefs that prevent people from achieving their potential:
1) Believing you are not smart enough, when in reality smartness comes from focused study and practice.
2) Thinking you are too inexperienced, when many successful people gained experience by just starting projects without prior experience.
3) Believing it is too late to make changes, when in fact people find success at all stages of life.
4) Conditioning happiness on external factors, when in reality you can choose to be happy every day.
5) Thinking your identity is fixed, when in fact people constantly evolve based on experiences and growth.
6) Using being too busy as an excuse
The document discusses values through a case study of four students applying for a job that requires experience they do not have. Student 1 decides to wait for another opportunity. Student 2 considers lying about their experience. Student 3 applies anyway and explains their potential and willingness to learn in their cover letter. The analysis concludes that Student 3's approach was wisest, as lying would be unethical. While values guide people, individual circumstances can influence actions, and people with similar values may still choose differently. Understanding virtue is also important to the relationship between values and actions.

"Does Foreign Direct Investment Negatively Affect Preservation of Culture in the Global South? Case Studies in Thailand and Cambodia."
Do elements of globalization, such as Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), negatively affect the ability of countries in the Global South to preserve their culture? This research aims to answer this question by employing a cross-sectional comparative case study analysis utilizing methods of difference. Thailand and Cambodia are compared as they are in the same region and have a similar culture. The metric of difference between Thailand and Cambodia is their ability to preserve their culture. This ability is operationalized by their respective attitudes towards FDI; Thailand imposes stringent regulations and limitations on FDI while Cambodia does not hesitate to accept most FDI and imposes fewer limitations. The evidence from this study suggests that FDI from globally influential countries with high gross domestic products (GDPs) (e.g. China, U.S.) challenges the ability of countries with lower GDPs (e.g. Cambodia) to protect their culture. Furthermore, the ability, or lack thereof, of the receiving countries to protect their culture is amplified by the existence and implementation of restrictive FDI policies imposed by their governments.
My study abroad in Bali, Indonesia, inspired this research topic as I noticed how globalization is changing the culture of its people. I learned their language and way of life which helped me understand the beauty and importance of cultural preservation. I believe we could all benefit from learning new perspectives as they could help us ideate solutions to contemporary issues and empathize with others.
Vicinity Jobs’ data includes more than three million 2023 OJPs and thousands of skills. Most skills appear in less than 0.02% of job postings, so most postings rely on a small subset of commonly used terms, like teamwork.
Laura Adkins-Hackett, Economist, LMIC, and Sukriti Trehan, Data Scientist, LMIC, presented their research exploring trends in the skills listed in OJPs to develop a deeper understanding of in-demand skills. This research project uses pointwise mutual information and other methods to extract more information about common skills from the relationships between skills, occupations and regions.

The Gift of Giving Credit
By: Nicole Kusold
Inspired by a blog post from Seth Godin
2. 2
CONFIDENTIAL
From a relatively age, we’ve been trained in giving credit where credit is due.
As children, we were the recipients of credit– teachers and parents created a rewards
system to credit our good behavior, hoping that this positive reinforcement would
cultivate continued displays of kindness, intelligence, manners, etc.
3. 3
CONFIDENTIAL
In high school and college, we were taught to give credit to others.
We gave credit to others through peer-nominations for sports and scholastic
awards. We gave credit to other intellectuals in our reports and academic papers in
APA or MLA citations.
4. 4
What are the expectations for
Giving and Receiving Credit?
As we progress through life to the ‘working world,’ what are the expectations for
giving and receiving credit?
5. 5
There really aren’t any.
To be honest, there really aren’t any formal guidelines...No one’s going to give you
gold stars in attempt to cultivate good behavior. No one’s going fire you for copying
and pasting others work directly into your emails without a citation (probably).
6. 6
Just because there aren’t any expectations…
Doesn’t mean you shouldn’t
give credit.
16. 16
I give you credit
for acknowledging
your mistakes…
17. 17
…it’s not easy to
admit that you
were wrong, but you are
brave enough to do that.
18. 18
CONFIDENTIAL
You’ve given them credit, and you’ve asked for nothing in return.
This means, you’ve given them a gift…Giving someone credit is giving them a gift.

What kinds of situations could you give credit in?
I give you credit for your contribution to this project. Without you’re extrodinary efforts, we would not be where we are today.
I credit you for my success on this project. Because you taught me to do this, I was able to succeed.
I give you credit for pointing out areas that I need to improve in…I appreciate your honest and straight-forwardness.
I give you credit for trying. This is new territory for you, but you remained eager and positive, and you were able to grow.

What do you think the end result is for anytime you’ve given someone credit?
It’s a positive interaction. 100% of the time.
But the benefits are greater than the costs.
Challenge: Give two people credit this week.See what happens.
