Wearable technology may be niche now, but it offers big opportunities for retailers to improve customer experience and boost sales conversions. Here’s why it must be taken seriously NOW.
Cannibalisation! Anti-competition! High street under siege! We look past such ‘catastrophising’ and reveal some far more down-to-earth truths about the power of multi-channel retailing.
As we break in 2021, the learnings of the past year have sorted core truths from gimmicks, particularly in the retail landscape. See how, in many ways, it is the backbone of our commerce that has emerged most vital. And why establishing frameworks which withstand the litmus test of uncertainty have become the most important ingredient in a business’s continued success.

Fashion e-commerce, branding vs conversion? Decoded Fashion London 2015Fabrique
In fashion, perhaps more than anywhere else, branding is everything. Many fashion brands have spent decades building up a unique but delicate brand image: they often rely on staying enigmatic, using aspirational photography and inspired physical stores to differentiate. In an increasingly online world, this imposes a problem.
In this roundtable at Decoded Fashion London 2015, Strategy director and Partner at Fabrique, Pieter Jongerius will bring together the worlds of fashion, touchpoint strategy and e-commerce design. Afterwards, you will have learnt a very concrete approach to obtaining success in fashion e-commerce, illustrated with recent best practices.
Retail 2020: Retail Will Change more in the Next 5 Years than the Last 50FITCH
Against a backdrop of seismic shifts in our retail landscape, Christian Davies, Executive Creative Director, Americas at FITCH took the audience on a global tour of the major trends that will be the norm by the time we’re ringing in the New Year of 2020. Emerging trends are mapped against new shopper behaviors and the rise of Gen Z – set to be the largest group of shoppers globally by 2020 – and by new realities of retail operations, language and purpose. This presentation was given at Globalshop in Las Vegas on March 26th, 2015.

Today’s customer is at the center of every business transaction and keeping the customer engaged has never been more vital than it is in our digital world. To leverage the changing customer journey, every company needs to understand the journey as infinite engagement rather than a linear process. This session will present a model of the customer journey for the digital age and show how analytics, data and connected systems can drive the improved customer experience from engagement to insight.
Digitalisation is transforming industries individually; the marketing of products is becoming more challenging due to an increasingly fragmented customer journey which has reached a new height of complexity. What about live marketing and its relevance for marketers?
Held by Stephan Peyer, Chief Development Officer, MCH Group SA (Switzerland), at UFI Open Seminar in Basel, June 20-22 2016

How designers and retailers can harness the power of design to differentiate their offer through engaging with customers in more meaningful ways.
In a constantly connected world obsessed with the next ‘update’ or ‘filtered selfie’, customers are seeking experiences that are more meaningful, products that represent their values and brands that create a positive impact on the neighborhood around us. The anti-prototype is a push for more authentic and active spaces where customers can engage with one another. Creating a destination requires a more anthropological approach to store design - one that harnesses the collective strength of retail’s combined disciplines to satisfy our converging lifestyles. This session will explore ways to create localized destinations by unleashing the power of design and transforming the communities where shoppers, workers and students live.
"How landlords, retailers & designers can harness the power of design to differentiate their offer by engaging with customers in more meaningful ways." Presented at the InRetail Summit, Dubai 2016.
In a constantly connected world obsessed with the next ‘update’ or ‘filtered selfie’, customers are seeking experiences that are more meaningful, products that represent their values and brands that create a positive impact on the neighborhood around us. The ‘anti-prototype’ is a push for more localized, authentic, & ‘active’ spaces through which to engage with one another. Our response to this requires a more ‘anthropological’ approach - one that harnesses the collective strength of retail’s combined disciplines to satisfy our converging lifestyles. This session will explore ways in which to connect with people where they live by unleashing the power of design to transform lives in the neighborhoods where shoppers, workers & students live.
Learning Objectives: What can we do to surprise & delight customers? What would an ‘unfiltered’ experience feel like? Is it too late to slow down, re-engage our senses and can a store be a catalyst that creates positive friction in the community? As a result of attending this session, attendees will:
* Discover what makes a destination when so much can be accessed online.
* Learn how to create new forms of intimacy between brand and consumer that feel authentic & real.
* Understand how brands can remain consistent so they do not become diluted as a result of localization.
Pop-up stores are seeing a renaissance in the retail world, and for good reason. Their flexibility and benefits are appealing to retailers and brands of all sizes, growth phases, and maturity. They can serve as solutions to some of retail's biggest challenges: entry into physical retail, expansion of existing physical retail, reaching new customers, and driving engagement and loyalty.
For more information on the considerations and critical success factors when developing a pop-up strategy, read the Boundaryless Commerce: POP-UP RETAIL Focus Report.
