EUCHARIST
and
MISSION
1. The Eucharist is an invitation to
share our stories and break bread
together listening to the model story
of our lives, Jesus Christ.
2. Eucharist is an invitation to communion,
vertical and horizontal. As meal oriented people,
we love food, we love to eat.
There is fellowship,
friendship, unity,
community, solidarity,
sharing, participation, and
partnership signified in the
meals.
Jesus’ meal is an
extraordinary
experience of
communion in
the Eucharist,
drawing all
people close to
Him.
The Eucharist
is the greatest
gift of Jesus to
the Church.
3. The Eucharist is
Jesus’ incarnation
and self-emptying,
the Father’s Word,
declaring his Love,
insisting on it,
suffering on it,
The
Eucharist
is indeed
the
source
and
summit of
4. The Eucharist is
the STAR (Sacrifice,
Thanksgiving,
Asking,
Reconciliation) or
the SPARK
(Sacrifice, Asking,
5. The
Eucharist
spurs us on
to mission.
As a community of
disciples united in Christ
we are called to mission.
“The mass is ended, go to
the world and proclaim the
Good News of Salvation”
the priest proclaimed at the
end of the Eucharist. the
“GO” here is not a
ceremonial dismissal, but it
is a mission mandate.
6. At the same time,
the goal of mission is
communion of
humanity with Christ
in the fellowship with
the Trinity.
The best model
for this is the
Blessed Virgin
Mary
The essence of mission
is to evangelize. The
first means to
evangelize is “the
witness of an
authentically Christian
life, given over to God
in a communion that
nothing should destroy
and at the same time
given to one’s neighbor
with limitless zeal.” (EN
21)
Mary
evangelizes
the world by
her conduct
and by her
life.
Mary shows concern
for the people,
preferential love for
the poor, the witness
of the responsible
freedom, poverty and
detachments, the
witness of sanctity,
attentiveness to the
Word of God, work for
justice and peace,
manifesting the Mercy
7. The Eucharist overflows
to our daily endeavors
We cannot approach the
Eucharist without being
drawn into the mission
The Eucharist then is our
motivating power within, our
spirituality, our strength to
do what we celebrate and
what we receive in the
Eucharist.
Our life is the
continuation of the
Mass. (Blessed Albert
Hurtado)
It shows in the form of
generosity, kindness,
forgiveness, sincerity,
honesty, and
persevering work. It
adds quality to our daily
undertakings at home
or in the workplace and
so on.
8. Mission is
Dialogue with
the
contemporary
problems and
daring to
confront them
9. Mission is
dialoguing for
social
transformation
10. Mission is a dialogue towards
peace. Healing historic memories
(Pope Francis with the Lutherans)
reducing anger, generating good will.
