Work can negatively impact families in several ways. Long work hours can limit time spent with family, increase stress levels, and interfere with family responsibilities. Studies show that employees who work more than 40 hours per week report lower family satisfaction and increased work-family conflict. They also have higher rates of divorce. Employers can help by offering flexible schedules to allow employees to better balance work and family demands. This would improve employee well-being and loyalty to their companies.

The title page needs to adhere to the APA format required by the University. There is a sample of an APA formatted title page in the Writing Center. For the title page, create an interesting and catchy title that motivates your audience to read your paper.
Introduction (1 page)
Your paper’s introduction should include the background or history of your chosen event, why the topic is important to research and analyze, and your thesis.
First, the introduction should provide a bit of background for your reader. Do not assume your reader knows about the topic and its history. Share with your reader the time and place that the event occurred and provide a little background. Include a brief review of what led up to the event, why it was such a significant or historic moment, who it involved, etc.
Then, add in the introduction why this is an important topic for research and analysis both for current and future concerns.
Finally, the thesis is the main point of your paper. You should consider your objective (what is the main point you want your reader to remember), consider your audience, and make the thesis connect to what will be covered in your paper. Since the Final Research Paper specifically requires that you discuss how the event influenced human behavior, human expression, and ethics, your thesis should reflect this.

Psychodynamic
theory
and its derivatives can be traced to the father of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud. You likely are familiar with the image that often conjures Freud: A client lying on a couch with a therapist sitting nearby, notepad in hand. The psychoanalytic terms “id,” “ego,” “superego,” “repression,” and “unconscious” are deeply embedded in the layperson’s jargon.
Many
theories
have sprung from Freud’s psychoanalytical principles. Attachment
theory
is one example. Its originator, John Bowlby, was directly influenced by Freud, but because of Bowlby’s experiences in working with disturbed children, he believed that a child’s psychosocial development is linked to their attachment to the mother. Because all
theories
must be tested using empirical research methods, Mary Ainsworth tested John Bowlby’s theory using the Strange Situation experiment, which involved observing children react to caregivers and strangers. The results from her research led to what we now know as attachment styles.

There are numerous social issues that prompt attention today and that directly or indirectly impact both small and large populations. These include issues as diverse as animal rights, euthanasia, the gender wage gap, intimate partner violence, access to health care, disability rights, detention of unaccompanied migrant children, and veterans rights, to name but a few.
As you consider a social issue on which to focus, keep in mind that you will be researching and writing about the social issue throughout the remainder of the course. An objective of this project is to build a well-researched foundation on which you might pursue further involvement. For that reason, you are encouraged to select an issue about which you have genuine concern and interest. Is there a social issue that has impacted you or a family member personally? Are there inequities that impact your life or the lives of others in your community? Are there global concerns that resonate strongly with you? Personal passion and connection to an issue often fuels the kind of committed action that attracts participants and achieves objectives. For this project, select an issue that you genuinely care about.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create a shareable educational
resource about a particular structural inequality. In it, you will 1) describe the structural
inequality and 2) recommend at least 1 specific action people can take to help disrupt,
dismantle, or otherwise work against that structure. There are 3 major components to this
project: the resource itself, a 2-3 page reflection piece, and a Works Cited. Instructions
for each can be found below.
In doing this assignment, you’ll get the chance to:
• Synthesize information and ideas you’ve come across in the
readings, conversations, and assignments.
• Reflect on how education can be a crucial component of being an
active, engaged member of your community and of society as a
whole.
• Produce a concrete resource that you can put out into the world
about your topic.
Educational Resource Instructions
For the resource itself, I’m giving you a fair amount of freedom. You have to create an
educational resource, but the exact form it takes is really up to you. Some options people
have done in the past:
• Write an editorial/article about your topic that could be submitted
to a newspaper or other periodical. (You don’t have to actually
submit it.)
• Create a brochure about your topic that can be printed and
distributed.
• Create a short zine about your topic that can be printed and
distributed.
• Produce a short podcast or video about your topic.
• Create a blog post (with links for more info) about your topic.
• Create a website about your topic.
• Create an educational board game or video game about your topic.
• Something else that you come up with (and get approved by me)
While you have a lot of freedom for the form of the project, there are certain criteria that
all projects must meet. To get full credit your resource must:
• Be targeted towards a particular audience (likely a particular
group of stakeholders for the issue)—Think about whom you want
to reach. Who is likely to care about the issue if they learned about
it? Who might be willing and able to take action?
o Your target audience should influence the form and
language of the project. For example, you probably
wouldn’t create a video game if your target audience is
Idaho congresspeople (or maybe you would?).
• Contain the following components
1. A short background on the situation. Explain what is going
on, how it’s unequal, and why we should care about it.
2. A description of the communities that are most impacted by
the issue and how they are impacted. This is related to the
previous component; one way to make people care about an

Social personal perception is the way a person perceives and understands issues. This is an interesting topic to do research because people are different, and they perceive issues from an array of viewpoints. For my research proposal, the topic I would like to investigate is the determinants of social perception. My main objective is to identify and determine the various factors that determine how people perceive issues. I have seen how people, cultures, nationalities can perceive the same action in different ways, such as kneeling during the National Anthem at professional football games. Upon preliminary research, some literature that I read claimed that both internal and external factors determine a person’s perception. Critical thinking is frequently used to describe how social workers ought to reason. But how well has
this concept helped us to develop a normative description of what it means to think like a social
worker? This critical review mines the literature on critical thinking for insight into the kinds of
thinking social work scholars consider important. Analysis indicates that critical thinking in social
work is generally treated as a form of practical reasoning. Further, epistemological disagreements
divide 2 distinct proposals for how practical reasoning in social work should proceed. Although
these disagreements have received little attention in the literature, they have important implications
for social work practice.
In 1991 John Seelig argued that the concept of critical thinking was the best way to answer the
question of how social workers ought to think (p. 21). Since the publication of Seelig’s article,
critical thinking has become the dominant way of describing desirable forms of reasoning1 in
American social work. Other authors began to promote critical thinking in social work at
approximately the same time (Gambrill, 1990; Gibbs, 1991; Witkin, 1990), and the term caught
on quickly. In 1992 the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) began requiring that
baccalaureate and master’s programs teach students to “apply critical thinking skills” in profess-
ional social work practice (CSWE, 1992a, 1992b, as quoted in Gambrill & Gibbs, 1995, p. 194;
Huff, 2000, p. 400). More recently, the CSWE’s Educational Policy and Accreditation
Standards (EPAS) made critical thinking one of 10 core competencies that all bachelor of social
work (BSW) and master’s of social work (MSW) programs should cultivate in their students,
presenting a guiding description of the concept that emphasizes “principles of logic, scientific
inquiry, and reasoned discernment” (CSWE, 2008; see Figure 1). Thus critical thinking has
become a major goal of every social work curriculum in the country.
However, as Deal and Pittman (2009) pointed out, the scholarly literature on critical thinking
in social work is still quite spare. We know very little about whether or how social work
education teaches students to think critically, let alone the extent to which such education affects

My goal is to get a better understanding and inform the reader to consider another point of view.

For this next paper, we will expand upon our understanding of the social problem through analyzing the organizations that are committed to addressing it. Social personal perception is the way a person perceives and understands issues. This is an interesting topic to do research because people are different, and they perceive issues from an array of viewpoints. For my research proposal, the topic I would like to investigate is the determinants of social perception. My main objective is to identify and determine the various factors that determine how people perceive issues. I have seen how people, cultures, nationalities can perceive the same action in different ways, such as kneeling during the National Anthem at professional football games. Upon preliminary research, some literature that I read claimed that both internal and external factors determine a person’s perception. Critical thinking is frequently used to describe how social workers ought to reason. But how well has
this concept helped us to develop a normative description of what it means to think like a social
worker? This critical review mines the literature on critical thinking for insight into the kinds of
thinking social work scholars consider important. Analysis indicates that critical thinking in social
work is generally treated as a form of practical reasoning. Further, epistemological disagreements
divide 2 distinct proposals for how practical reasoning in social work should proceed. Although
these disagreements have received little attention in the literature, they have important implications
for social work practice.
In 1991 John Seelig argued that the concept of critical thinking was the best way to answer the
question of how social workers ought to think (p. 21). Since the publication of Seelig’s article,
critical thinking has become the dominant way of describing desirable forms of reasoning1 in
American social work. Other authors began to promote critical thinking in social work at
approximately the same time (Gambrill, 1990; Gibbs, 1991; Witkin, 1990), and the term caught
on quickly. In 1992 the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) began requiring that
baccalaureate and master’s programs teach students to “apply critical thinking skills” in profess-
ional social work practice (CSWE, 1992a, 1992b, as quoted in Gambrill & Gibbs, 1995, p. 194;
Huff, 2000, p. 400). More recently, the CSWE’s Educational Policy and Accreditation
Standards (EPAS) made critical thinking one of 10 core competencies that all bachelor of social
work (BSW) and master’s of social work (MSW) programs should cultivate in their students,
presenting a guiding description of the concept that emphasizes “principles of logic, scientific
inquiry, and reasoned discernment” (CSWE, 2008; see Figure 1). Thus critical thinking has
become a major goal of every social work curriculum in the country.
However, as Deal and Pittman (2009) pointed out, the scholarly literature on critical thinking
in social work is still quite spare. We know very little about whether or how social work
education teaches students to think critically, let alone the extent to which such education affects

Sociological imagination is a quality of mind that can be developed with conscientious practice, and that helps you understand the larger meanings of experiences. To use the sociological imagination, it is important to pay attention to the social and historical context in which we find ourselves. Moreover, I think most people are unaware of their inherent biases and people tend to retreat to their corners where it is safe. My goal is to get a better understanding and inform the reader to consider another point of view.

Based upon your topic chosen in the first assignment, or based upon an entirely new topic of your choice, describe two organizations (Feel free to do your own independent research on these organizations) that is seeking to address this social problem. (1-2 pages).
Note: If you do change topics please get prior approval from you instructor.
Analyze two major ways that each organization is addressing the social problem you have mentioned. For example, are they helping to create homeless shelters, are they helping people receive drug treatment, or are they working with state and local authorities to curb suffering in some area?
Use at least four concepts or theories from our text (not used in our first assignment) for each organization. Don’t forget to include proper APA-style citation and reference. (worth 10% of total grade).

Using scholarly sources and a critical sociological perspective (not blaming the victim), Research how race, class, and gender impacts stress, stress-related illnesses, treatment of stress and coping strategies. Answer the following questions in your analysis (3-5 pages):
Without stereotyping, discuss the various social and psychological ways in which different people with different backgrounds can combat social stresses. Include the importance of extended families, friends and peers, religious organizations, support groups, and telephone hotlines.
Using the feminist perspective, discuss why there is gender disparity in stress.
How would you explain this statement: “Research has demonstrated that black individuals have higher rates of psychological distress than white individuals.” Include information about systemic and institutionalized racism, police violence, high incarceration rates, etc.
