Background: Sociological imagination is a phrase from sociologist C. Wright (The Promise). Mills was interested in how an average American understood his or her everyday life. For the individual final paper, students can choose one of the following four options (A, B, C, and D).

The purpose of this final paper is to enhance your knowledge and understanding of normal development during adolescence or adulthood. You should select a developmental task (or tasks) appropriate for either adolescence or adulthood.
For example, the development of an identity is a task that typically occurs during adolescence in Erickson’s theory of psychosocial development. You should review the literature related to this developmental task and write a comprehensive literature review that addresses not only the traditional views and theoretical explanations for this task, but also explores non-traditional explanations as well. For example, if you choose the issue of spousal abuse, you must address the traditional views outlined in the literature which define the cause and role of battering in interpersonal relationships including the alternative view of some theorists that violence in relationships can be viewed as acceptable behavior.
In so doing, you must identify the value systems underlying both traditional and alternative views on the issues. Your literature review may focus on normal development in adolescence or adulthood, or abnormal development.
Illustrating your literature with case examples, either from your field experiences or the literature is required.

What difference does social psychology make?
Follow this guidance to write two mini-papers for our course. Each mini-paper counts for

When was the last time you drove through an unfamiliar neighborhood or community? How quickly did you identify that area as a “good” or “bad” part of town? What led you to that assessment? It is easy to label a community or town based on its appearance or reputation alone. Have you ever wondered, as you drove through certain communities, why some areas appear to be safe, clean, and filled with many varied businesses, while others appear run-down and lined with only check cashing centers, fast-food restaurants, and liquor stores? As a macro social worker, you often will see that communities thrive and falter due to the lack of resources available. Additionally, these areas may not grow or prosper because their resources have been untapped. Identifying strengths—be it in your individual clients, groups, families, and communities—is a key social work value. Use of this strengths perspective helps you to identify the potential strengths of a community and how to advocate for its members to obtain the resources and services they need to be successful.

For the research project, which will span the last few modules, you will choose a problem in society that you feel needs a solution or improvement. Then, you will research the problem, including its causes and effects, and propose a practical solution (or two) to the issue. You will argue your problem in a researched, academic essay.
This assignment has four major parts:
Part 1: A memorandum where you will acknowledge your purpose and goals in a formal writing format (100 points due in Module 6)
Part 2: Annotated Bibliography in which you list and detail your sources (100 points due in Module 6)
Part 3: A digitial presentation, where you will organize and detail your intended essay’s research via PowerPoint or similar program. (100 points due in Module 7)
Part 4: An argumentative research essay for the academic community, where you will detail the problem and its potential solution(s) persuasively with credible research for evidence and backing (200 points due in Module 8)
Topic Selection
It’s important for you to choose a topic that you are passionate about so that you are more invested in its research. I will not choose a topic for you, but I do have some guidelines:
Off-Limit Topics: If the major backing for a topic roots itself in opinion, morality, or religious belief, then it is not an effective topic for an academic inquiry. For those reasons, please avoid the following topics: abortion, religious preference, death penalty, marijuana use, assisted suicide, and gay marriage.
Overly General Topics: Your essay will be about 5 pages long; you are not writing a book. Therefore, you need to choose a topic that is manageable. Topics that are too broad include gun control, child abuse, global warming, obesity, sex trafficking, violent media, teen pregnancy, bullying, or drug abuse. Nevertheless, these topics aren’t completely unavailable to you; if you’re interested in one of these ideas, you need to narrow it to a smaller central argument. (See below.)
Narrowed, Manageable Topics: Avoid choosing a broad, complex issue that cannot be easily solved. Since you only have a few weeks to work on this paper and to propose effective solutions, you should narrow your topic down into a feasible focus. For example, instead of “gun control,” you could narrow the focus to “A problem in society is that many guns are bought and sold without proper background checks and training.” With this topic, you can research more effectively. As you narrow your topic, make sure you can state it as a problem (e.g. “A problem in society is _________.). Moreover, you should begin to imagine a practical solution for the problem. For example, a solution for your problem would not be that “guns must be eliminated everywhere”; this is too broad and too problematic.
A Word of Caution: It’s important that you narrow your topic effectively, but be sure not to narrow too much. For this assignment, you should choose.

The final project for this course is the creation of a sociological imagination PowerPoint presentation.

Narrowed, Manageable Topics: Avoid choosing a broad, complex issue that cannot be easily solved. The final project for this course is the creation of a sociological imagination PowerPoint presentation.
The presentation is designed to encourage students to think about social problems—past or present, local or global—using their sociological imagination, which involves looking beyond the traditional expectations or veneer associated with social problems. For instance, video games have become popular among people of all generations, but its uses and effects on people and society has created some very different views. Video games are sometimes blamed for promoting negative behavior among children and adolescents, such as criminal activities and physical violence (Barlett, et al., O’Toole). Some people also argue that habitual uses of video games lead to health issues such as addiction and obesity (Grüsser et al.). Video game addiction can also lead to sleep deprivation and lack of concentration, and in some cases affect people’s performance at work or school. While some people may be quick to dismiss all forms of gaming as the culprit, others argue that not all video games or all uses of video games are problematic. James Gee, a literacy specialist and advocate for the use of video games in teaching and learning, argues that “any learning, whether it's books, a movie, or a game, can lead to bad or good results depending on the environment in which it's [played], not the game itself”

Various forms of technology have also changed what it means to be literate. The charges against her were then dropped because she explained that both the shoplifting and the amnesia resulted from her forgetting to eat after taking her insulin. Of note, her blood-sugar level on testing in the emergency room was elevated. The patient calmed down appearing asymptomatic after the evaluation and was transferred to jail pending a preliminary hearing. When she learned that her release was planned for the next day and that the charges against her would not be dropped, she became extremely agitated, angry, and abusive to the officers. Shortly thereafter, she complained of a headache and said she had no recollection of her abusive behavior. Later that evening she accosted an officer angrily. Marriage, couple, and family counselors have varying caseloads. What they all have in common is that their group of clients—whether large or small—represents the variety of human experience. Even those counselors with a specific clinical focus see variety in the ways in which specific issues manifest in different relationships. Part of the goal of your counseling program is to expose you to varying scenarios so that when you are faced with differing client situations, you will have the evidence-based research knowledge, flexibility, analytical skills, and theory-integration practice to know the best course of action to take with a particular couple or family.

Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic Imperative
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Sociology 101: Introduction to Sociology Professor LaBagnara Sociological Imagination Paper assignment Writing exercise 1 April 16th, 4 PM 100 points Objective: Practice thinking sociologically about your own life and the community around you. Background: Sociological imagination is a phrase from sociologist C. Wright (The Promise). Mills was interested in how an average American understood his or her everyday life. He found that people’s understandings of the world are limited by the social situations they find themselves in, particularly their family, friends, schools, and workplaces. It is hard to see the larger picture and how your life fits in. Sociological imagination is a quality of mind that can be developed with conscientious practice, and that helps you understand the larger meanings of experiences. In particular, it helps you connect private troubles or choices to public issues, and to understand the influence of culture, socialization, stratification on your life and lives of others. To use the sociological imagination, it is important to pay attention to the social and historical context in which we find ourselves. This does not mean that the social context determines what happens to us entirely. Rather, our choices are shaped by the society we live in and larger forces. Writing Assignment 1 Write 3 pages in which you apply the sociological imagination to your own life, or to the life of someone close to you. First, write about the situation without sociological imagination. Then, relate the situation to one or more concept, theory, or fact that we have covered in class so far. For example, you might write about how you perform gender in everyday life, how
- 2. gender shapes your choices and options, or your first experience with racism. Or you might analyze assumptions about sexuality in how you were raised. Or you might think through what it means to have grown up poor, working, or middle class, etc. Details: · Introduce the concept of sociological imagination in your own words, and provide an overview of how you will apply it to the situation in your paper · Describe the situation Include an explanation of what led up to the situation, specifics of the situation, how it has been resolved or how you think it might get resolved, who are the players involved, how you feel about the situation and why. Describe any choices that have been made or not made and why. · Provide psychological, moral, evolutionary, or personal explanation(s) for the situation. In other words, how would you explain the situation without sociological imagination? For example, you might talk about how your struggles with weight are due to lack of willpower · Use sociological imagination to explain the situation sociologically, connecting the personal to larger forces. Review class notes and readings to connect the situation to concepts or theories (week 3) we learned in class. You do not need to do outside research, but if you do use other sources, you must cite the source. · IMPORTANT: Cite at least 1 concept or piece of information from the readings or lecture. See under Format below on how to do it. · Write a conclusion summarizing the major points you made in the paper. Format: 3 pages double-spaced, Times New Roman size 12 font, 1 inch margins, indent your paragraphs instead of skipping lines. Use first person when writing (e.g. “The problems started when I left my parents’ house…”). Begin the paper with a title, your name, and date. Keep a copy saved on your drive or computer. Edit carefully for spelling and grammar. When you mention a concept or information from class material
- 3. in the text, put it in your own words, then cite where you got it from. For example: My mother’s struggle to make ends meet is an example of feminization of poverty (Sociology 101 Lecture, DATE). She also had to do the “second shift” when she got home from work (Conley 2014, p. 469). Do not copy from the lecture or readings. Paraphrase (put into your own words). At the end of the paper, include a list of your sources. For example: Sociology 101 lecture, “Introduction to Theory”, September 17, 2019. Professor LaBagnara. University of Massachusetts Boston. Cooky, Chryl and Nicole Lavoi. “Playing but Losing: Women’s Sports Under Title IX.” Contexts 11(1):42-46. A word of caution: Most of us tend to rely on psychological and individual-centered explanations of situations, such as personality traits, emotions, stress, etc. You can include this (briefly) in the paragraph describing non-sociological explanations. But remember to move beyond these types of explanation for the main portion of the paper. You appropriately used at least 1 concept or theory from class. You wrote a conclusion that summarized the major points Format 10 You had the right font, margins, paragraphs, and indentation. You had a title, date, name, and used first person writing. Your spelling and grammar was up to college writing standards. You cited your sources appropriately. Overall Grade ___ out of 100

BLCN 532 Blockchain Development Final Project This final project gives you the opportunity to review what you’ve learned throughout the semester and present a range of topics in the form of a policy that describes how participants can join your business network, and the benefits of doing so. The overall purpose of your policy should be to create interest in your business network and its applications, along with a description of the onboarding process and ongoing benefits to members. Take what you’ve learned about the Letter of Credit business network and develop a novel business application that relies on enterprise blockchain functionality. Describe your business idea, focusing on how enterprise blockchain technology is central to its value and uniqueness. Create a membership policy that describes the benefits and requirements of membership in
- 6. your business network. Your body of your policy should be no less than 1000 words and no more than 2000 words. The document you submit should in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx) and be named using the following criteria: BLCN532_SECTION_STUDENTID_LASTNAME_FIRSTNAME _Project.docx • SECTION is the section number of your current course (2 digits) • STUDENTID is your student ID number (with leading zeros) • LASTNAME is your last name • FIRSTNAME is your first name Your policy should include the following: 1) Purpose statement of the business network (i.e. blockchain environment) a. Describe your business environment (what business are you in?) b. Describe how blockchain technology makes your application possible and more valuable than existing offerings. c. Describe what value your blockchain app provides to your
- 7. existing and potential customers and partners. 2) Description of the current (base) network (participants and functionality) (For example, who is part of your network now and what does your application do now? Of course, this is where you get to tell the story of the business idea you created. It doesn’t have to be a real, current business.) 3) Brief description of upcoming features in the next quarterly release. (Be creative, but realistic here. Think about what the existing application does, and what features you’d like to add that would increase the application’s usefulness and value. Analyzing current functionality and determining which features would best meet business needs will be a big part of assessing this assignment.) 4) Description of application upgrade process that may impact application availability and member business processes. (i.e. How does the business network organization plan to
- 8. deploy new software features without causing substantial service interruptions?) 5) List of rights and benefits for participants (how does each member benefit and what data/services are available for each member) 6) Membership requirements for new members (minimum security requirements, approval process, decision making rules and authorities, minimum required agreements that new members must accept and agree to) (Remember that members are business partners, not customers. The focus of the whole semester is enterprise blockchain development, not consumer blockchain solutions.) 7) Description of fees for participation and service access 8) Minimum member resource contributions to the business network 9) Process for ending participation in the business network 10) Process for resolving disputes, including appealing the outcome of a resolved dispute. 11) Course of action to initiate an application for membership
- 9. Background content for items 1 and 2 will come from your text. Other items will be a combination of content from your text and extrapolation based on what you've learned this semester. Pay careful attention to #3. That one requires that you carefully consider how enhancing the application can help it better align with member (and prospective member) business goals. The purpose of this project is to di gest the material you've learned throughout this semester into a white paper that could be used to recruit potential business network members, as well as provide details of the rights and responsibilities of business network members. Your policy document should present a clear and concise description of the benefits of being a business network member, why blockchain technology provides superior benefits to solutions based on other technologies, and the onboarding process and expectations once membership is approved. The overall goal is to give you an opportunity to demonstrate that you understand
- 10. how this example blockchain technology use case implementation aligns with existing, and prospective, member business goals. Your paper must be in APA format, including citations and references, but I’m not particularly concerned with the specific format you select for the paper’s body.
