An Emergency Services Communications Specialist, Nathan Rotenberg participated in his initial first responder training in 2000 with the CFPC. In the nearly 20 years since, he’s also trained and earned certification in emergency communications, search and rescue, hazardous materials training, confined space entry and emergency vehicle operations, among others. Nathan Rotenberg has volunteered his time with the emergency disaster services division of the Salvation Army for Southeastern PA and Delaware.

Good morning and welcome back to Energy Source, coming to you from New York, where the city swelters in its first heatwave of the season.
Nearly 80 million people were under alerts in the US north-east and midwest yesterday as temperatures in some municipalities reached record highs in a test to the country’s rickety power grid.
In other news, the Financial Times has a new Big Read this morning on Russia’s grip on nuclear power. Despite sanctions on its economy, the Kremlin continues to be an unrivalled exporter of nuclear power plants, building more than half of all reactors under construction globally. Read how Moscow is using these projects to wield global influence.
Today’s Energy Source dives into the latest Statistical Review of World Energy, the industry’s annual stocktake of global energy consumption. The report was published for more than 70 years by BP before it was passed over to the Energy Institute last year. The oil major remains a contributor.
Data Drill looks at a new analysis from the World Bank showing gas flaring is at a four-year high.

New report offers sobering view of the energy transition
Every year the Statistical Review of World Energy offers a behemoth of data on the state of the global energy market. This year’s findings highlight the world’s insatiable demand for energy and the need to speed up the pace of decarbonisation.
Here are our four main takeaways from this year’s report:
Fossil fuel consumption — and emissions — are at record highs
Countries burnt record amounts of oil and coal last year, sending global fossil fuel consumption and emissions to all-time highs, the Energy Institute reported. Oil demand grew 2.6 per cent, surpassing 100mn barrels per day for the first time.
Meanwhile, the share of fossil fuels in the energy mix declined slightly by half a percentage point, but still made up more than 81 per cent of consumption.

- 1. The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund Nathan Rotenberg
- 2. Introduction • An Emergency Services Communications Specialist, Nathan Rotenberg participated in his initial first responder training in 2000 with the CFPC. In the nearly 20 years since, he’s also trained and earned certification in emergency communications, search and rescue, hazardous materials training, confined space entry and emergency vehicle operations, among others. Nathan Rotenberg has volunteered his time with the emergency disaster services division of the Salvation Army for Southeastern PA and Delaware. As well as being a major supporter of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute traces its roots to 1947 when Dr. Sidney Farber founded the Children’s Cancer Research Foundation. After he died in 1973, the foundation was renamed after him and, in 1983, it merged with the Charles A. Dana Foundation and was renamed the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Located in Boston, today the institute accepts patients of all ages, a policy it adopted in 1969, and employs a staff of about 5,000 who support nearly 650,000 outpatient visits annually, as well as more than 1,000 hospital discharges and 1,100 clinical trials.
- 3. Dana Faber Cancer • This institute is also one of the Harvard Medical School’s principal teaching facilities and works with several nursing schools in the Boston area. The Jimmy Fund came about by happenstance in 1948. One of Dr. Farber’s patients, 12-year-old Einar Gustafson who was nicknamed “Jimmy” to preserve his privacy, was a great fan of the Boston Braves who were the city’s Major League Baseball team at the time. Jimmy was invited to speak on the nationally broadcast program “Truth or Consequences,” and during the program he expressed his wish for a television to watch the Braves play. Not only did the ensuing flood of contributions pay for a television set, more than $200,000 was left over for the establishment of the Jimmy Fund, which has since raised millions of dollars to support the Dana-Farber Institute.
