Format:
Meet clients individually one – on- one in intern office, optional for client’s to
participate. Create schedule every week to be passed around at the house meeting to have
client’s sign up for appointment times.
Description:
Develop a caseload and write narratives to add to case manager’s files. Utilize computer,
phone, and printer in office to develop resumes, do skills training, practice interviewing,
look for jobs, apply to school, find housing, and apply for benefits. Occasionally use play
room to watch client’s children while they went on job interviews.
Outcome:
Every client that was a resident at The Center for Women in Transition at the time I was
an intern utilized the Career Counseling Program. About 20 clients had developed and
had copies of resumes when I left in May of 2014. About 10 clients had gone on
interviews and been to job fairs, one client had found an apartment for permanent
housing, and one client began receiving benefits through utilizing my program. My
supervisor decided that the program was a success and that future interns would be in
charge of running the program during their internships at The Center for Women in
Transition.
I also developed a resume guidebook to leave at The Center for Women in Transition for
clients to utilize once I had left.
