Cons are that blogs require high internet speeds which can be limited in Africa, and content could be lost if the social network disappears. The blog will be used to deliver HIV/AIDS courses for clients, providers, and caretakers through a nonprofit due to its low cost. It will also help explore new tools, develop communication strategies, and tailor existing courses for social media delivery. Personal uses include reflection, information storage, research, networking, and learning opportunities.

Lisa Harris is interested in innovative applications of technology in education, business, and society. She is currently involved in projects investigating digital literacy, social activism, social CRM, and social learning. Some of her work includes exploring social shopping behaviors on social networks and the role of social media in online activism. She is also developing blended learning modules and working to embed digital literacy into university curriculums.
Assessing the ecology_of_a_course_blog
Two studies were conducted to compare the impact of using course blogs versus traditional paper-based writing processes. In the first study, one section of a technical writing course published their work on a blog and received online peer feedback, while the other used paper drafts and workshops. The blogging section had significantly higher publishing rates. A follow-up study of a composition course used personal blogs for one section and paper for the other. The blogging section received more numerous and higher quality peer comments and demonstrated higher learning outcomes. Student feedback indicated blogs created a more engaging learning environment and sense of responsibility.

The primary goal of the project is to save post-secondary students money by promoting the adoption of free, open textbooks. But there are additional goals and benefits of the open textbook project that will benefit the post-secondary system in BC and beyond. In this presentation, Clint Lalonde from BCcampus will give an update on the BC Open Textbook project, and talk about some of the other open educational goals of the project that go beyond saving students money.

This document summarizes a presentation about the BC Open Textbook Project. The project aims to connect the expertise, programs and resources of BC post-secondary institutions under a collaborative framework. It has three phases: 1) Launch open textbooks in high-enrollment subjects, 2) Adapt existing open textbooks to the BC context, and 3) Create new open textbooks from scratch. The project expects to improve access to education by reducing student costs and improve learning outcomes. It also enables faculty collaboration on open educational resources.
DCU Community Knowledge Exchange Digital Marketing Plan 2015/2016 Presentation
This was a comprehensive digital marketing plan for The Community Knowledge Exchange in DCU for the 2015/2016 academic year. The plan was centered on some key marketing objectives to improve awareness, enhance CKE reputation, encourage students to address community issues & portray academic research as a positive community driver. The CKE had no budget and limited staff so we had to come up with ways to maximize efficiency with very few man hours.
Evolving the Loop: How ePortfolios drive a 21st century learning college
This document discusses evolving assessment practices at Guttman Community College, including increasing emphasis on ePortfolios and core competencies. It outlines new general education competencies in areas like inquiry/problem solving, integrated learning, and digital communication. Faculty are developing ePortfolio assignments and rubrics to explicitly teach and assess these competencies. Periodic program reviews also evaluate competency achievement. The occupational therapy assistant program example shows how ePortfolios can integrate assignments, map curricula to competencies, and facilitate longitudinal student reflection on professional growth.
