The document discusses Paul's letter to the Galatians where he describes how James, Cephas, and John gave him and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship to go preach to the Gentiles, while they would preach to the circumcised. It establishes that fellowship includes all types of people in Christ regardless of background, those with different opinions as long as they are matters of disputable opinion, those at different stages of spiritual maturity, and those with doctrinal misunderstandings, as long as the core truths are held to. The key is for believers to show love, humility, patience and grace towards one another.

If you have attended a Christian church for any length of time how has your life measurably improved? What have you learned about God, the world and yourself that you most likely would not have known apart from attending? What part does the Bible have in your Christian experience and growth? The epistle of James is a practical pedagogy, written to persecuted Messianic Jews, highly relevant to today's Christians.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.
Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

The Breadth of Fellowship
1. Galatians 2:9
[9] and recognizing the grace that
had been given to me, James and
Cephas and John, who were
reputed to be pillars, gave to me
and Barnabas the right hand of
fellowship, so that we might go
to the Gentiles and they to
the circumcised.
2. Quick Review of Last Week
1) The Triangle of fellowship is
found in …
3. 1 John 1:6-7
[6] If we say that we have fellowship
with Him and yet walk in the
darkness, we lie and do not practice
the truth; [7] but if we walk in the
Light as He Himself is in the Light,
we have fellowship with one
another, and the blood of Jesus His
Son cleanses us from all sin.
6. Quick Review of Last Week
2) God draws lines of unity
around faith and baptism.
7. Galatians 3:26-27
[26] For you are all sons of God
through faith in Christ Jesus.
[27] For all of you who were baptized
into Christ have clothed yourselves
with Christ.
8. 1 Corinthians 12:12-13
[12] For even as the body is one
and yet has many members, and all
the members of the body, though
they are many, are one body, so also
is Christ. [13] For by one Spirit we
were all baptized into one body,
whether Jews or Greeks, whether
slaves or free, and we were all
made to drink of one Spirit.
9. Ephesians 4:3-6
[3] being diligent to preserve the
unity of the Spirit in the bond of
peace. [4] There is one body and
one Spirit, just as also you were
called in one hope of your calling;
[5] one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
[6] one God and Father of all who is
over all and through all and in all.
10. Quick Review of Last Week
3) We must do our best to
correctly honor fellowship
with God.
13. Galatians 3:28
[28] There is neither Jew nor Greek,
there is neither slave nor free man,
there is neither male nor female;
for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
14. 1 Corinthians 12:12-13
[12] For even as the body is one
and yet has many members, and all
the members of the body, though
they are many, are one body, so also
is Christ. [13] For by one Spirit we
were all baptized into one body,
whether Jews or Greeks, whether
slaves or free, and we were all
made to drink of one Spirit.
16. Romans 14
[1] Now accept the one who is weak
in faith, but not for the purpose of
passing judgment on his opinions.
17. Romans 14
[2] One person has faith that he
may eat all things, but he who is
weak eats vegetables only.
[3] The one who eats is not to
regard with contempt the one who
does not eat, and the one who does
not eat is not to judge the one who
eats, for God has accepted him.
18. 1 Corinthians 7:25-26
[25] Now concerning virgins I have
no command of the Lord, but I give
an opinion as one who by the mercy
of the Lord is trustworthy.
[26] I think then that this is good in
view of the present distress, that it
is good for a man to remain as he is.
19. Romans 14
[22] The faith which you have, have
as your own conviction before God.
Happy is he who does not condemn
himself in what he approves.
[23] But he who doubts is
condemned if he eats, because his
eating is not from faith; and
whatever is not from faith is sin.
20. Romans 15:1-2
[1] Now we who are strong ought to
bear the weaknesses of those
without strength and not just please
ourselves. [2] Each of us is to
please his neighbor for his good,
to his edification.
21. Fellowship includes…
1) All types of 3) Different
people stages of
In Christ maturity
2) Those with
different opinions
22. 1 Corinthians 3:1-2
[1] And I, brethren, could not speak
to you as to spiritual men, but as to
men of flesh, as to infants in Christ.
[2] I gave you milk to drink, not
solid food; for you were not yet
able to receive it. Indeed, even
now you are not yet able,
[3] for you are still fleshly. …
23. Hebrews 5:12-14
[12] For though by this time you
ought to be teachers, you have need
again for someone to teach you the
elementary principles of the oracles
of God, and you have come to need
milk and not solid food.
24. Hebrews 5:12-14
[13] For everyone who partakes
only of milk is not accustomed to
the word of righteousness, for he
is an infant. [14] But solid food is
for the mature, who because of
practice have their senses trained
to discern good and evil.

Corinth, to those who have been
sanctified in Christ Jesus, saints by
calling, with all who in every place

[19] keeping faith and a good
conscience, which some have
rejected and suffered shipwreck in
regard to their faith. [20] Among
these are Hymenaeus and
Alexander, whom I have handed
over to Satan, so that they will be
taught not to blaspheme.
28. 2 Timothy 2:16-18
[16] But avoid worldly and empty
chatter, for it will lead to further
ungodliness, [17] and their talk will
spread like gangrene. Among them are
Hymenaeus and Philetus, [18] men who
have gone astray from the truth saying
that the resurrection has already taken
place, and they upset the faith of some.
