The document is a summary of a bible study on the story of Joseph from Genesis 37 and 50, focusing on how God can work through conflict. It discusses how Joseph's brothers were jealous and sold him into slavery, but that God later used these events to save many lives during a famine by elevating Joseph to a high position in Egypt. The study urges readers to trust that God can bring about good outcomes even from difficult situations and conflicts, and to consider forgiving others as Joseph did his brothers.

The Story: To understand the Bible, says author and pastor Randy Frazee, you need bifocal lenses, because two perspectives are involved. The Lower Story, our story, is actually many stories of men and women interacting with God in the daily course of life. The Upper Story is God’s story, the tale of his great, overarching purpose that puts the individual stories together like panels in one unified mural. Bestselling author Max Lucado also adds some introductory insights. Through these 31 video sessions, The Story small group study opens your eyes to God’s master plan as it unfolds in the lives of the Bible’s characters. Discover the heart of God’s Upper Story and the joy that comes as you align your story with God’s.
Luke 14: 1, 7-14 talks about people trying to climb the social and corporate ladder, hanging around with the successful people. Jesus calls us to be humble and serve those whom are not in the social circles or corporate high places
The Joseph Calling Salt & Light July 2017Os Hillman
Do you have a Joseph Calling on your life? Os Hillman shares in an online lecture for the ministry of Salt & Light his insights on calling, adversity and cultural influence. He reveals the 6 stages to discover, navigate and fulfill your purpose.
When your are on a downward spiral, God is silent and the desert is empty, and you face more of nothing, nothing, nothing ... then suddenly a something ...
This lesson goes over how to be more forgiving and merciful to those around us, even when they are in the wrong. It also encourages us to reflect on ourselves. Both audio and slides can be found together at www.cmcoc.org
The persistent unfaithfulness of a nation stirs God’s wrath (Eze. 14:12-20). Israel was involved in idolatry. In God’s providence, He moved against the land (famine, sword, pestilence). It was so bad, that three righteous men like Noah, Daniel, and Job could not deliver it; they could only deliver themselves.
Has our nation reached the point of no return? It has been in persistent rebellion and drifting away from God for a long time. It may not be delivered. However, let us be righteous men and women: 1. To honor God; 2. Do what we can to influence others; 3. Deliver our own souls.
This lesson examines three righteous men—Noah, Daniel, and Job—and notes how they serve as role models for us.

The Book of Joshua is the sixth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament, and is the first book of the Deuteronomistic history, the story of Israel from the conquest of Canaan to the Babylonian exile.
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.
Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

4. What’s the Point?
God is at work even in the midst of
conflict.

5. Conflict
• Can feel draining, can feel like it is
keeping us from something meaningful
• God can use whatever conflict to bring
meaningful results in our lives.
• Conflict can lead to resolution, which can
lead to stronger relationships.
• God can strengthen our faith and
endurance through conflict.

7. The Setting
• Favoritism, hatred, and envy defined the
family of Jacob.
• Brothers hated Joseph wanting to kill him.
• Instead they profited from their hatred.
• Done with their brother, later, they found
themselves standing before him in Egypt.
• He forgave them because he saw that God
was at work through all that transpired.

8. The Bigger Picture
• Israel’s role as the people of promise was
being jeopardized by their acceptance of
the loose moral standards of the native
Canaanites.
– Incest, Reuben and his father’s wife
– Judah’s marriage to a Canaanite, incest
• God moved them away to Egypt through
Joseph’s story

9. A Silver Lining
• When have you seen the silver lining in a
difficult situation?
• When did you figure out that it was, in
fact, a silver lining?
• How did you react to the initial incident
and then to the Big Picture?
11/17/2013
John R. Wible, 2013

10. Focus
• We’re not going to focus on
anyone’s dysfunctional family.
• We’re going to focus on the work of God
in the midst of whatever dysfunction or
conflict we are facing.

11. What Have We Learned?
Four Sessions of resolving conflict
• Conflicts can arise because of different
priorities
• It’s Not about ME!
• Sometimes you need to stand down
• Never compromise on the Bible
• Sometimes you have to “step in”

12. I Have a Dream
Read: Genesis 37:5-8
• Joseph had a dream that all the sheaves
bowed down to him.
• Perhaps he should have kept it to
himself

18. Your “Big Picture”
• Look at “The Big Picture” on page 148 of
the BOOK:
• Someone who hurt you is now asking to
be a part of your life again, how might
God be at work in this?
• How might God be at work in a current
conflict in your life?
