Moshoeshoe was the founder of the Basotho Nation and lived from around 1786 to 1870. He received advice from the prophet Mohlomi on how to effectively lead, such as choosing peace over war, taking wives from different clans, and not killing people accused of witchcraft. Moshoeshoe employed strategies like borrowing cattle to subjects, practicing marriage alliances between clans, allocating land, and paying tribute to stronger chiefs to avoid wars as he successfully built the Basotho Nation.
