The Basotho Nation was founded by Moshoeshoe I and is comprised of people who speak Sesotho. They live in both Lesotho and parts of South Africa. Moshoeshoe was born in 1786 in Leribe, Lesotho and was given leadership advice by Mohlomi, including choosing peace over war, marrying wives from different clans, and not killing people accused of witchcraft. Moshoeshoe used strategies like borrowing cattle to his subjects, marrying across clans, allocating land, and paying tribute to stronger chiefs to build up his nation without war.
