The Aztecs were a group of Nahuatl-speaking people who settled in the Valley of Mexico after migrating from northern Mexico, where they created the Triple Alliance uniting three city-states into a powerful empire governed by a centralized system. They relied heavily on constant warfare and tribute to survive, which led to the development of a prominent warrior class, though they were eventually conquered by Hernan Cortez and his Spanish allies in the early 1500s with help from rival Aztec tribes. Some Aztec nobles and traditions survived well after the fall of their empire.
