Some old and new tips, tricks and tools for rapid web application security assessment (black and white box). They are useful in various situtations: pentest with very limited time or huge scope, competition, bugbounty program, etc.
Web accessibility refers to the inclusive practice of removing barriers that prevent interaction with, or access to, websites by people with disabilities. When your website is inaccessible, research shows you could be excluding up to 20 percent of your visitors from interacting with your content and functionality. If your university website is inaccessible, you could be preventing access to education, student services, and more.
When your website is accessible, everyone can consume your information freely. Visually-impaired users can visit your website using a screen reader. Those who can’t use a mouse can navigate your site using a keyboard or other input device.
While creating accessible websites involves every step, including design and content, the foundation for good accessibility starts with good markup. Join my workshop to learn more about accessibility and how to program a high-quality user experience that is inclusive and beneficial to all.

Beyond Technical Debt: Unconventional techniques to uncover technical and soc...Juraj Martinka
* Traditional static code analysis tools (Sonar et al.) are notoriously bad at producing actionable insights (what does the "4000 years of accumulated technical debt" really mean?)
* CodeScene takes a different approach and focuses instead on how code evolves over time using a treasure trove we all posses - version control history.
* Come and meet CodeScene, a unique behavioral code analysis tool that looks for patterns in version control data to understand the history and evolution of a codebase: unraveling things like hotspots, change coupling between modules and interesting social aspects of the code.
* I'll describe the ideas behind CodeScene, how it works and demonstrate the techniques on analyses of real projects.

Magento 2 Best Practice Workfow // David Lambauer // Meet Magento 2017 // Lei...AOE
This Slidedeck was used for my talk at MMDE17 in Leipzig. The Talk is about a best practice workflow in Magento and targets developer who are used to write a lot of modules in their daily work.
Software developers use the term “Technical Debt” as a metaphor to convey the compromise between hitting the release date to meet the deadline and cleaning your code to ensure the quality. This could relate to financial debt when you could get money in a quicker and easier way but it comes with the duty of paying interest. In software development, incurring “Technical Debt” comes with extra work in the future and some other consequences.

Systems of record are often seen as especially difficult to deal with in regards to Agile adoption and DevOps practices. But is that a reason to avoid them? Unfortunately often people don’t talk about the messy work that is required to make these systems work in an Agile environment, it looks so much cleaner with web applications or your custom Java application. Let’s get our hands dirty together in this talk.
I will show you that once you drill open the COTS and Enterprise systems you will be surprised to find common ground, that allows you to deal with these systems in a very similar way to your custom development applications. I work with enterprise grade applications (for example Siebel, Mainframe) all the time and I want to share with you what you can do to make your COTS and Enterprise systems work better in an Agile environment. I provide tangible examples from Siebel and Mainframe to illustrate how you can solve some of the problems and will also share some of the areas that I have failed in so far.
First users: Heuristics for designer/developer collaborationJonathan Abbett
From the University of Illinois Web Conference 2013.
Ask a web designer who his “first users” are, and he’ll probably name early adopters, stakeholders, or usability testers. Designers rarely consider their actual first users: the web developers they work with to build their designs. Over the last year, I’ve performed an informal user research project where the “users” were software development teams of all shapes and sizes. Drawing on these discussions and my background as a former web developer, I’ve created a set of friendly heuristics (in the tradition of Jakob Nielsen and Louis Rosenfeld) that designers can use to make their design materials far more useful for developers. I’ll show how these heuristics will encourage holistic solutions rather than piecemeal design work, surface critical implementation issues sooner, and establish a stronger basis for designer/developer collaboration.

What is automation?
•au·to·ma·tion - noun - the use of largely
automatic equipment in a system of
manufacturing or other production process.
•The use of computers & software to do
tedious, but necessary, tasks – usually
done by non-attorney employees,
secretaries paralegals.
10. www.techshow.com
#ABATECHSHOW
Main Goal of Automation
•Help lawyers create better documents
faster, by supplying “intelligence” in the
form of built-in document structure, logic,
and clauses generated from a checklist
•Calculators
•Produce consistent decisions
19. www.techshow.com
#ABATECHSHOW
Why Should Lawyers Systemize?
•Speed & Efficiency: save time by inserting text
faster
•Cost savings: saving time usually lowers
overhead
•Profit: spend less time on low value, commoditized
processes, which allows more time for high-value
work (that you charge more for!)
•Reliability: automated processes create perfect
output every time
•Reduce Stress. Let machines do the mundane
21. www.techshow.com
#ABATECHSHOW
Key Points
•“We are built for novelty and excitement, not for careful
attention to detail.”
•“You want people to make sure to get the stupid stuff right.”
•“Checklists provide a kind of cognitive net. They catch
mental flaws inherent in all of us — flaws of memory, and
attention, and thoroughness.”
•“Trained, hard-working, dedicated professionals regularly
and frequently make avoidable mistakes. The solution may
seem ridiculous in its simplicity…
–Use a checklist!”
25. www.techshow.com
#ABATECHSHOW
The Process
1. Breakdown long, multi-step processes
into smaller steps (using pen & paper)
2. Create a process tree (using pen &
paper)
3. Record comments (i.e., citations, cases
names, statutes) and changes to the
document in place where others can easily
access, anytime (e.g. cloud)
26. www.techshow.com
#ABATECHSHOW
Store the Process

version tracking

common processes, easy to capture

What kind of documents should
lawyers automate?
•Pleadings: appellate briefs, & district court
filings, affidavits
•Form contracts: estate planning docs,
business formation docs
•Internal Docs: engagement letters, tax forms,
employee docs, trial and deposition prep
•Client letters: common advise that changes
based on circumstances

Before we Start…
Some Key Observations
•Yes, creating the system is front-loaded, in
terms of effort, time, and cost
•Once built, however, it's 95% self managed
(only 5% effort in tweaking)
•Don’t obsess about perfection; just start by
keeping track of drafts (and then fine-tuning
them).
•Periodic Audit
39. www.techshow.com

Analyze the Structure
•What is the document’s logic?
•What are the commonly encountered
variables?
•Other factors that need to be considered in
drafting the document? (Formatting, Style,
etc)

BOLD AND ALL CAPS
as told by Butterick
DON’T CAPITALIZE WHOLE PARAGRAPHS. THIS HABIT IS
ENDEMIC TO LAWYERS, BUT IT’S ESPECIALLY COMMON IN
CONTRACTS. MANY LAYERS SEEM TO THINK THAT
CAPITALIZATION COMMUNICATES AUTHORITY AND
IMPORTANCE. “HEY, LOOK HERE, I’M A LAWYER! I DEMAND
THAT YOU PAY ATTENTION TO THIS!” BUT A PARAGRAPH
SET IN ALL CAPS IS VERY HARD TO READ. AND IT’S EVEN
HARDER TO READ IF IT’S BOLD. AS THE PARAGRAPH
WEARS ON, READERS FATIGUE. INTEREST WANES. HOW
ABOUT YOU? DO YOU ENJOY READING THIS? I DOUBT IT.
BUT I REGULARLY SEE CAPITALIZED PARAGRAPHS IN
LEGAL DOCUMENTS THAT ARE MUCH LONGER THAN
THIS. DO YOUR READERS A FAVOR. STOP CAPITALIZING
WHOLE PARAGRAPHS.

Common, Default Advice
I've received this question so many times that I've created a default answer: pay it
and avoid any additional penalties. The ticket is a non-moving violation, so it will
not be reported to your insurance company.
You can try to challenge it, but based on discussions with other attorneys, you'll
probably lose and have to pay the fine anyway. You can also appeal that decision
to Civil District Court, but the filing fee is about $400. And on the off chance that
you win, you still won't get that filing fee back. So unless you want to just fight the
good fight, that's not a financially viable option.
If you do not pay the fee, the city may boot your car, then add on extra penalties.
Eventually, they'll send it to collections, and it could even affect your credit. If
you've received more than one ticket, I recommend you contact the city attorney
and attempt to negotiate a lower payment.
Yeah, that sucks. The most effective thing you can do? Write your city council
member (http://www.nolacitycouncil.com/) and complain.
