….continued Saudi Arabia is named after the ruling Al Saud family, which came to power in the 18th century, the country includes the Hijaz region - the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and the cradle of Islam. Saudi Arabia sits on more than 25% of the world's known oil reserves. It is capable of producing more than 10 million barrels per day. Jeddah – It is the second biggest city in the country. It is also a major port.
Sultanate of Oman Area - 209,550 km2(70th)  Population -  2,845,000 (2009 estimate) Currency – 1 Omani Rial(OMR)= 1000 biaza Government - Islamic Absolute Monarchy Sultan – Qaboos bin Said Al Said Capital (and largest city) - Muscat

UnitedArabEmirates Area - 83,600 km2(116th)  Population -  8,190,000 (2009 estimate) Currency – 1 Dirham = 100 fils Government – Constitutional Monarchy President – Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Capital  – Abu Dhabi
….continued The late Sheikh Zayed, ruler of Abu Dhabi and president of the UAE at its inception, was quick to seize on the potential of the oil industry. He oversaw the development of all the emirates and directed oil revenues into healthcare, education and the national infrastructure. The most important cities & ports are:- Abu Dhabi – Port Zayed Dubai – Port Rashid Sharjah – Port Khalid
Qatar Area - 11,437 km2(164th)  Population -  1,696,563 (2010 estimate) Currency – 1 Riyal(QAR)= 100 dirhams Government – Absolute Monarchy Emir – Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani  Capital (and largest city)  – Doha
….continued Qatar, a former pearl-fishing centre and once one of the poorest Gulf states, is now one of the richest countries in the region, thanks to the exploitation of large oil and gas fields since the 1940s. Possessing more than 15% of the world's proven gas reserves, Qatar has ambitions to become a global energy giant. The most important ports & cities: Doha - The capital & the center of commerce. Um Saeed – The main oil exporting & refining terminal.
Bahrain Area - 750 km2 (184 th)  Population -  791,000 (2008 estimate) Currency – 1 Bahraini dinar(BAR)= 1,000 fils Government – Constitutional Monarchy King – Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifah Capital (and largest city)  – Manama

It was one of the first states in the Gulf to discover oil and to build a refinery; as such, it benefited from oil wealth before most of its neighbors. Bahrain - a chain of around 30 islands - is a haven for tourists from the region, who take advantage of its relaxed social environment. The most important cities & ports are:- 	Manama- It is the capital. Port 	          Salman is in Al-Manama.  Al-Muherraq- The old capital.
Area -  438,317 km2(50th)  Population - 31,234,000 (2009 estimate) Currency – 1 Iraqi Dinar(IQD)= 1000 fils Government – Parliamentary Republic President – JalalTalabani Capital (and largest city)  – Baghdad Iraq
Iraq is an area once home to some of the earliest civilizations: Akkadian, Assyrian,  Babylonian, Hellenistic, Parthian, Sassanid and Abbasid empires, and part of the Achaemenid, Roman, Rashidun, Umayyad, Mongol, Safavid, Afsharid, Ottoman. Kuwait Area – 17,820 km2(157th)  Population -  3,566,437 (2010 estimate) Currency – 1 Kuwaiti Dinar(KWD)= 1,000 fils Government – Constitutional Monarchy King – Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah  Capital (and largest city)  – Kuwait City
Kuwait is derived from the Arabic "akwat", the plural of "kout", meaning fortress built near water. Kuwait was the first Arab country in the Gulf to have an elected parliament. The most important cities & seaports:- Kuwait City- The capital & the center of commerce of Kuwait. It has Shuweikh seaport, the international airport & the university. Al-Ahmadi- Also called “City of Oil”. ….continued
