4. ….continued Saudi Arabia is named after the ruling Al Saud family, which came to power in the 18th century, the country includes the Hijaz region - the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and the cradle of Islam. Saudi Arabia sits on more than 25% of the world's known oil reserves. It is capable of producing more than 10 million barrels per day. Jeddah – It is the second biggest city in the country. It is also a major port.

He oversaw the development of all the emirates and directed oil revenues into healthcare, education and the national infrastructure. Possessing more than 15% of the world's proven gas reserves, Qatar has ambitions to become a global energy giant. The most important ports & cities: Doha - The capital & the center of commerce. Um Saeed – The main oil exporting & refining terminal.

It was one of the first states in the Gulf to discover oil and to build a refinery; as such, it benefited from oil wealth before most of its neighbors. Bahrain - a chain of around 30 islands - is a haven for tourists from the region, who take advantage of its relaxed social environment. The most important cities & ports are:- Manama- It is the capital. Port Salman is in Al-Manama. Al-Muherraq- The old capital.

18. Kuwait is derived from the Arabic "akwat", the plural of "kout", meaning fortress built near water. Kuwait was the first Arab country in the Gulf to have an elected parliament. The most important cities & seaports:- Kuwait City- The capital & the center of commerce of Kuwait. It has Shuweikh seaport, the international airport & the university.
