The document discusses the development and importance of creeds in Christianity. It provides background on the Apostles' Creed and Nicene Creed, including their origins, purposes, and key beliefs. The Apostles' Creed is considered a faithful summary of the apostles' teachings and is divided into sections about God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Nicene Creed was based on ecumenical church councils and provides a more detailed profession of faith.
Articles of belief which are regarded as essential or a brief summary of Christian doctrine. The Creed can be viewed as a response to the desire to believe and to have faith to what has been revealed to us. Just like the apostles of the old, the San Antonio Abad Parish community believes in the Word who has come down to earth in the person of Our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Three Early Christian Creeds (from https://www.ccel.org/creeds/creeds.txt)
The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell;
The third day he rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead, I believe in the Holy Ghost,
I believe in the holy catholic church, the communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body,
And the life everlasting. Amen.
The Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed (A.D. 381)
I believe in One God,
The Father Almighty,
Maker of Heaven and Earth,
And of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ,
The Son of God,
The Only-Begotten, begotten of the Father before all ages;
Light of Light;
True God of True God;
Begotten, not made;
Of one essence with the Father,
By Whom all things were made;
Who for us men and for our salvation
Came down from Heaven,
And was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary,
And became man.
And He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate,
And suffered, and was buried.
And the third day He arose again,
According to the Scriptures,
And ascended into Heaven,
And sits at the right hand of the Father;
And He shall come again with glory to judge the living and the dead;
Whose Kingdom shall have no end.
And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life,
Who proceeds from the Father;
Who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified;
Who spoke by the prophets.
And in One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.

I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins.
I look for the resurrection of the dead,
And the life of the world to come.
The “Athanasian” Creed
Whosoever will be saved, before all things it is necessary that he hold the catholic faith;
Which faith except every one do keep whole and undefiled, without doubt he shall perish everlastingly.
And the catholic faith is this: That we worship one God in Trinity, and Trinity in Unity;
Neither confounding the persons nor dividing the substance.
For there is one person of the Father, another of the Son, and another of the Holy Spirit.
But the Godhead of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit is all one, the glory equal, the majesty
coeternal.
Such as the Father is, such is the Son, and such is the Holy Spirit.
The Father uncreated, the Son uncreated, and the Holy Spirit uncreated.
The Father incomprehensible, the Son incomprehensible, and the Holy Spirit incomprehensible.
The Father eternal, the Son eternal, and the Holy Spirit eternal. ...

One of the first PowerPoints that I made when teaching theology. It is crazy. It has animations, links to further slides, and terrible graphics. But it is fun share and does give an accurate view of the history of Christianity. (Although the animations and links don't work in this slideshare.)

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.
Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

6. First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation. ( 2 Peter 1:20) There are some things in them hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures. (2 Peter 3 :16)
7. So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and asked, "Do you understand what you are reading?" And he said, "How can I, unless some one guides me?" And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. Acts 8:31-31 Council of Jerusalem – Acts 15

BIBLE WAS NOT PRINTED UNTIL - 16 TH CENTURY – FAITH WAS DISSEMINATED THROUGH SACRED TRADITIONS AND SCRIPTURES OF THE CHURCH
How can Sola Sciptura Stand?
The word "tradition" is taken from the Latin 'trado, tradere' meaning to hand over, to deliver, or to bequeath. The teachings of Scripture are written down in the Bible, and are handed on, not only in writing, but also in the lives of those who live according to its teachings. The teachings of Tradition are not written down, but are lived and are handed on by the lives of those who lived according to its teachings, according to the example of Christ and the Apostles (1 Corinthians 11:2, 2 Thessalonians 2:15). This perpetual handing on of the teachings of Tradition is called a living Tradition; it is the transmission of the teachings of Tradition from one generation to the next.

A creed is a summary or statement of what one believes. The word …. I believe, I accept or hold true something on the word of another. The AC is a collection of all the truths the Apostles believed. It’s so called because it has come down (handed down to us as part of the deposit of faith) to us from the time of the apostles. The apostles were the 12 men that Jesus chose to be his first bishops- Peter being the first. They lived with him, followed him and learnt from him during his public ministry. These apostles taught and preached, following Jesus command “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; …(Matthew 28:19)..(as what Martin spoke about last week). What so important about the Creed, you may ask? When we recite the Creed, we make an act of faith. I believe in the God I cannot see, in the Trinity which is beyond my understanding and I put our trust in God’s word. This is what the C is about. The way your sessions designed – threads the entire Creed. That’s how important. Naturally a big part is devoted to JC- He the man. In the ancient days the Creed was used as a summary of Christian doctrines for baptismal candidates in the Roman churches. It is still used in the Rite of Baptism. During your baptism, each of you will be asked to profess your faith in the form of questions..Sunday Mass – Nicene Mass-longer version
