Proverbs 30:25 says, “Ants are of little strength,
yet they store up their food in the summer.”
ants have six legs.
Ants can lift 20 times their own body
weight.
An ant brain has about 250 000 brain cells.
A human brain has 10,000 million so a
colony of 40,000 ants has collectively the
same size brain as a human.
The average life expectancy of an ant is
45-60 days.
Ants use their antennae not only for touch,
but also for their sense of smell.
The ant has two eyes, each eye is made of
many smaller eyes. They are called
compound eyes.
The abdomen of the ant contains two
stomachs. One stomach holds the food for
itself and second stomach is for food to be
shared with other ants.
What is the Ant Philosophy?
What are the life lessons we can learn
from ants?
Ants never quit:
Think Winter all Summer:
Think Summer all Winter:
All that you possibly can:
If they’re headed somewhere and you try
to stop theme they’ll look for another way.
They’ll climb over, they’ll climb under,
they’ll climb around.
They Keep another way.
LESSON: to never quit looking for a
way to get where you’re supposed to
go.
You cant think so naïve as to think summer
will last forever.
So ants are gathering their winter food in
the middle of summer.
You’ve got to think rocks as you enjoy the
sand and sun.
LESSON: It is important to be realistic.
Think ahead.
During the winter, ants reminds
themselves, “This wont last long; we’ll
soon be out of here.”
At the first warm day, the ants are out.
If it turns cold again, they’ll dive back
down, but then they come out the first
warm day.
LESSON: Stay positive at all times.
A question that Jim Rohn asks is, “How
much does an ant gather during Summer
to prepare for Winter?”
Answer: all that possibly can!
Ants never quit:
• LESSON: to never quit looking for a way to get
where you’re supposed to go.
Think Winter all Summer:
• LESSON: It is important to be realistic. Think
ahead.
Think Summer all Winter:
• LESSON: Stay positive at all times.
All that you possibly can:
• LESSON: all that possibly can!
Ants teach us to be brave.
Ants teach us to ignore little diversions.
Ants teach us that the next generation is
everybody’s responsibility.
 Ants teach us that knowledge should be
shared.
Ants teach us to adapt to our
surroundings.
 The average worker ant is just as brave as Beowulf.
The average human is obviously more than 10 times
the size of an ant. We get terrified by bears and tigers
which really are nowhere near ten times our size.
Some of us even screech at the sight of a cockroach.
Yes size doesn’t matter and bears and tigers are
dangerous, but we’re just trying to justify the immense
bravery of a little ant. With your strength, you could
squash an ant, dismember it, drown it and do many
other terrifying things to it. Ants teach you that no
matter how terrifying things may look up ahead, you
should never chicken out. Come to think of it, ants are
a lot braver than your typical action movie hero.
 If you put your finger in an ant’s path, it just
walks around it and soldiers on to where it’s
heading. It won’t let your stupid finger hinder
its work. Put another obstacle in its way and it
still soldiers on to its destination. You should
do the same and not let silly problems and
conflicts get in your way of achieving your
objective. If you’re doing your homework,
don’t let that silly Facebook notification divert
you to endless hours of pointless web
browsing.
 Ants raise all their young together and that’s something we should
learn to do. No, not wrap our children like larvae and put them in a
room, but educate them together. You don’t have to be living in the
same house to educate a child and neither do you have to be a
school teacher. You could educate a stranger’s child by showing
good example, giving good advice or even settling a small fight in a
very civilized manner. Unfortunately we have become quite selfish in
the upbringing of our children. Even worse are the cases of child
rape and murder. What we should do is be responsible for the
development of every child. If you’re a parent, you should also learn
to understand when others are trying to educate your children. Put
aside your ego because it’s all for the greater good.
 Ants leave chemical trails that allow their
colleagues to trace their path to success (food). It
would be pointless if they didn’t because although
a single ant is capable of carrying up to 50 times
its body weight (for real?), not much can be carried
back to base for the development of the colony.
The same thing applies to us when it comes to
knowledge. You might have a great capacity of
storing information in your miraculous brain but if
unshared, it won’t develop much from there
onwards. Discussion accelerates the development
of knowledge which could be beneficial to
mankind.
 You can find ants just about anywhere. It’s
amazing how they’ve managed to get the
most out of living with human beings. Move
into a new house and you’ll eventually find
ants. Walk in the forest and you’ll find ants.
Ants know where to search for resources and
you should do the same. Be quick to adapt to
your surrounding and don’t wait for a wakeup
call. When things around you change, learn to
adapt and make the most out of it.

Editor's Notes

  1. Just only two questions.. Ants are amazing creatures.  It’s estimated that if you were to weigh all of the ants on earth, they would weigh more than the total human population.   Whilst we don’t want them running around in our kitchens, there is a lot that we can learn from them. So what can we learn from these remarkable insects?  Jim Rohn, a leading business philosopher had a terrific theme that he used to teach called the Ant Philosophy.  It outlines some simple principles that we can all learn from.
  2. When I was young I was fascinated by ants.  When they are on the trail for food, they don’t let any obstacle stand in their way.  They don’t stand there with their hands on their hips and look at each other in disbelief.  They don’t shrug their shoulders and give up on their goal.  They don’t start to feel sorry for themselves and decide that success isn’t for them. They confront their obstacles and walk around it, over it, through it or under it until they achieve their desired outcome
  3.  In life there are going to be good times when things seem easier, goals are being achieved and the sun always seems to be shining.  These times don’t last and ants instinctively understand this, gathering and storing food for the times when Winter comes and food is scarce. When things are going well for us, we shouldn’t just give ourselves high fives and sit back and relax.  We should be planning for the times when things will go wrong and we are feeling stressed.  We can do this through continued learning and development, preparing ourselves with the skills that we may need in the future.  Saving money for a rainy day is also a great idea that comes from this principle. From a career perspective, we should be utilising the good times in our career to plan for the next stage.  This is much more resourceful than waiting until you hate your current job and will do anything to leave.
  4. When Winter descends on a colony of ants they go underground waiting eagerly for the sun to shine and when it does, they are immediately back out and about.  They seem to have an inbuilt optimism and know that the lean times won’t last forever.  As a communal insect, you can almost imagine them encouraging one another as they anticipate the end of Winter. There are times in everyone’s life when things go wrong and not according to plan.  Unfortunately, I can almost guarantee that there will be disappointments and let-downs, making certain periods of your life seem like Winter.  One of the elements of pessimism is that we can sometimes attach permanence to things that don’t go right.  Statements like, “Life is always out of control”, “I can never get my act together” and “I’m always stressed” can be extremely damaging and depressing after a while, making our low periods seem longer and sometimes actually last longer. Understand that bad times always end, things do get better and Summer is coming!
  5. If you want a flourishing career – do all that you possibly can. If you want to make a contribution to society – do all that you possibly can. If you want to have an awesome marriage – do all that you possibly can. If you want to raise well-balanced, confident kids – do all that you possibly can. If you want to feel empowered and resourceful – do all that you possibly can. Life rewards action, so think like an Ant and go for it!
  6. What can an ANT teach me about life? The celebrated conqueror, Timour the Tartar, was once forced to take shelter from his enemies in a ruined building. There he sat alone for several hours. After some time, desirous of diverting his mind from his hopeless condition, he fixed his attention on an ANT which was attempting to carry a grain of corn, larger than itself, up a high wall. Its efforts, however, were unsuccessful. Again and again it strove to accomplish its object—and failed. Still undaunted, it returned to its task, and 69 times did Timour see the grain fall to the ground. But the 70 time the ant reached the top of the wall with its prize, and “the sight,” said the conqueror, who had just before been despairing, “gave me courage at the moment, and I have never forgotten the lesson it conveyed.” Nor should we forget it. We should first see if a thing is worth doing, and if it is, and we fail, we should try again and again, and persevere until it is accomplished. If an ant were not discouraged by 69 failures, when should a little boy or girl be disheartened?
