The organization helps the people in case of occurrence of different calamities which might hinder the people’s ways of living. The manner in which the organization is run is facilitated by the servant leadership of the people working for the organization thus ensuring that the members of the public are served accordingly. The assistance given to the people is provided especially during the times of disasters like, hurricanes, fires, earthquakes and floods which end up wasting the people’s properties. (Lingenfelter, 2018) This organization is well known for the relief they give to the people after they experience the disasters. It was founded in May 1881 by Clara Barton for the sake of helping the American who is in distress. The founder therefore paved way for the volunteerism to happen hence ensuring that the suffering amongst the members of the public is reduced significantly. The organization’s effectiveness if facilitated by professionals such as the doctors, nurses, surgeons and the fire fighters who provide servant leadership in their practices to ensure that the people receive quality services. However, the manner in which the organization is operated is controlled by its mission statement which is as follows, “The organization ensures that human suffering is prevented and alleviated in times of occurrence of emergencies by encouraging different people to volunteer themselves with the help of generosity as their controlling virtue”. The stringent principals used by the organization do not encourage dislikes, discrimination, negativity and prejudice as that would hinder the effectiveness of the delivery of the services to the members of the public. Moreover, the American Red Cross’ servant leadership by the members ensures that humanity is encouraged therefore ensuring that the people’s lives are protected through the respect to the people being provided with the services. It provides effective priority in the cases which are the most urgent by not condoning discrimination of the people. Again, neutrality, impartiality, voluntary services and independence are encouraged amongst the member so as to ensure that the people in the society receive the best from the organization. The independence of the organization ensures that it maintains the needed autonomy by abiding by the laws of the country. This enables it to receive enough support from the government therefore making it easy for it to deliver services to the people in the entire country. This organization is under the management of the volunteers of the public for the sake of offering the services to the members of the public. This organization is of great importance because it helps people especially during the occurrences of the natural or the man dame calamities which are likely to prevent people from living their normal way of lives (Cross, 2011).
The management and the operations of the American Red Cross are under the influence of the servant leadership of the individuals who work for this firm. This is important in making sure that the members of the public is being served as per the requirements. Some of the services being offered by the American Red Cross to the members of the public are consisting of the services being provided during the hurricanes, fires, earthquakes, and the floods which are usually destroying the properties of the victims or leading to death cases (Goff, 2015).
Amongst the people who are greatly playing the key roles towards the success of the services being provided by the American Red Cross organization are the doctors, nurses, surgeons, and the firefighters who offer the servant leadership in their practices to make sure that the affected individuals get the quality services. The mission of the American Red Cross is also another factor which greatly contributes to the success of the firm. The mission of the organization is to ensure that there are prevention and the alleviation of the human suffering during the emergency cases through motivating various individuals to volunteer with the help of the generosity as their controlling virtue.

The Role of Social Workers and Community Psychologists in Promoting the Socia...
Vulnerable populations living in the communities of Mezam Division of the Northwest region of Cameroon suffer from near absent or inadequate social welfare services. Understanding the role of social workers and community service providers such as community psychologists in the community and seeking their assistance when need be would alleviate the mental health and plight of these vulnerable persons in dire need of social welfare. These vulnerable persons and groups include minors below 18, the elderly, persons with disabilities, persons living with mental illness and HIV AIDS, indigenous groups such as the Mbororos, orphans, widows, women and internally displaced persons or IDPs. Thus, the purpose of this study was to investigate the role of social workers and community service providers in promoting the social welfare of vulnerable persons and groups in the Mezam community. More specifically, the study sought to ascertain the extent to which social workers and community service providers perform the role of counsellors, mediators and agents of social change with respect to the promotion of the social welfare of vulnerable populations within in the Mezam community. The employed a case study research design using qualitative techniques. Focus group discussions, interviews and observations were used to obtain qualitative data from a sample of 25 social workers working at office and field locations under the Mezam Divisional Delegation of Social Affairs. Data was analyzed with the aid of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences SPSS version 23.0 for Windows. The qualitative data was analyzed using content analysis with the support of ATLAS.ti software version 8.0. Based on the findings, recommendations were made to social workers and community service providers notably community psychologists who were advised to make efforts to increase their mastery of core competencies and skills through additional professional training and to increase the visibility of their services within the community through outreach. Combatting Senior Isolation with Volunteerism
Senior isolation is a social issue that many of our senior citizens face today. It is estimated that 40% of our senior population suffers from senior isolation. Senior isolation in the elderly has been linked to an increase in illnesses, mortality, depression, elder abuse and a higher incidence of the elderly needing long term care services. It is one of the largest risks to our aging senior’s health and well-being. Volunteer work can help combat senior isolation and have a positive impact on a senior’s health. Senior citizens make up 15.2 percent of the total population of the United States according to the 2016 census bureau and it is reported that by 2060 the number of senior citizens will double. Senior volunteer programs that promote involvement can assist in combating isolation and the negative health consequences while keeping our seniors healthy and active within their communities.
Senior Corps is an organization that currently engages roughly 220,000 older adults between the ages of 55 and above within America in service to their communities through its Foster Grandparent, Senior companion and RSVP programs according to Nationalservice.gov. Utilizing the strengths and assets of our seniors today not only keeps our seniors from isolation but also benefits the communities in which they live. The primary focus of Senior corps is to utilize the strengths, skills and attributes of seniors 55 and above to help tutor, mentor, care for and volunteer to meet the needs of others within their community while also having mutually positive benefits to the health and wellness of the aging senior population. Senior Corp programs not only improve the lives of those served but also the lives of the senior volunteers. Service learning opportunities within Senior Corps could produce beneficial outcomes for the American communities that Senior Corps volunteers, the partnering universities and the student service learners reside. The collegiate service learning students can play an instrumental role in increasing awareness with marketing strategies including recruitment events and informative meetings to promote participation, and enrollment into the programs. Creating and implementing marketing plans while utilizing their technology skills and social media platforms, collegiate service learners can assist Senior Corps in increasing the number of senior volunteers enrolled within each of the programs. Intergenerational learning can promote valuable relationships and partnerships that help bridge the generation gap. Service learners in intergeneration settings report “positive outcomes related to a better understanding of the older generation, enjoyment of interacting with the elders, appreciation of the life exp.

THE NORTHBOUND BUS had scarcely left North Bay, Ontario, when-at 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 1975-it came to an abrupt halt. Peering out the bus window at Highway 11, Jody Stevens saw a line of taillights stretching into the night. "There must be an accident up ahead," she said to her seatmate. "I had better get out and help." Jody, a young nurse from Toronto, was on her way home to spend Thanksgiving (and celebrate her twenty-fourth birthday) with her family in Timmins. An October drizzle soaked her shoulders as she trudged past a quarter mile of stopped traffic to an eerie scene. In the flickering light of Coleman lamps and road flares, she saw the two-lane highway spattered with blood. An old school bus converted into a camper lay on its side in the ditch. A hunter's pickup truck was stalled in the left lane, the bodies of two moose lolling grotesquely from the back. Off the right shoulder was a silver Mercedes-Benz with a smashed hood. In the lane between them a silent ring of people had gathered round a fourth vehicle-a blue 1973 Ford, a crumpled wreck, with four people in it.
"I think they're all dead," a burly man told Jody.
She caught her breath and thought, Well, Stevens, what do you do now? Jody had packed a lot of experience into the two years since her graduation as a registered nurse, most recently at the Toronto East General Hospital. She threw off her corduroy coat and crawled into the back seat of the crushed car.
While Jody was riding north, twenty-six-year-old Charles Jodouin, his wife Jeanne, and her parents Omer and Lucie Fortin, were driving south from Timmins to visit Jeanne's sister in Kingston. Despite the late hour, traffic in both directions was fairly heavy. They were less than three miles out of North Bay when, suddenly, the left rear wheel spun off an oncoming converted school bus: it flew straight into the grill of a pickup truck moving south just ahead of the Jodouins. Then, out of control, the camperbus skidded across the centre line and sideswiped the Jodouins' blue Ford. A split second later a brand-new Mercedes, travelling behind the camper, also slammed into the Jodouins.

Vulnerable populations living in the communities of Mezam Division of the Northwest region of Cameroon suffer from near absent or inadequate social welfare services. Understanding the role of social workers and community service providers such as community psychologists in the community and seeking their assistance when need be would alleviate the mental health and plight of these vulnerable persons in dire need of social welfare. These vulnerable persons and groups include minors below 18, the elderly, persons with disabilities, persons living with mental illness and HIV AIDS, indigenous groups such as the Mbororos, orphans, widows, women and internally displaced persons or IDPs. Thus, the purpose of this study was to investigate the role of social workers and community service providers in promoting the social welfare of vulnerable persons and groups in the Mezam community. More specifically, the study sought to ascertain the extent to which social workers and community service providers perform the role of counsellors, mediators and agents of social change with respect to the promotion of the social welfare of vulnerable populations within in the Mezam community. The employed a case study research design using qualitative techniques. Focus group discussions, interviews and observations were used to obtain qualitative data from a sample of 25 social workers working at office and field locations under the Mezam Divisional Delegation of Social Affairs. Data was analyzed with the aid of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences SPSS version 23.0 for Windows. The qualitative data was analyzed using content analysis with the support of ATLAS.ti software version 8.0. Based on the findings, recommendations were made to social workers and community service providers notably community psychologists who were advised to make efforts to increase their mastery of core competencies and skills through additional professional training and to increase the visibility of their services within the community through outreach. Combatting Senior Isolation with Volunteerism
Senior isolation is a social issue that many of our senior citizens face today. It is estimated that 40% of our senior population suffers from senior isolation. Senior isolation in the elderly has been linked to an increase in illnesses, mortality, depression, elder abuse and a higher incidence of the elderly needing long term care services. It is one of the largest risks to our aging senior’s health and well-being. Volunteer work can help combat senior isolation and have a positive impact on a senior’s health. Senior citizens make up 15.2 percent of the total population of the United States according to the 2016 census bureau and it is reported that by 2060 the number of senior citizens will double. Senior volunteer programs that promote involvement can assist in combating isolation and the negative health consequences while keeping our seniors healthy and active within their communities.
Senior Corps is an organization that currently engages roughly 220,000 older adults between the ages of 55 and above within America in service to their communities through its Foster Grandparent, Senior companion and RSVP programs according to Nationalservice.gov. Utilizing the strengths and assets of our seniors today not only keeps our seniors from isolation but also benefits the communities in which they live. The primary focus of Senior corps is to utilize the strengths, skills and attributes of seniors 55 and above to help tutor, mentor, care for and volunteer to meet the needs of others within their community while also having mutually positive benefits to the health and wellness of the aging senior population. Senior Corp programs not only improve the lives of those served but also the lives of the senior volunteers. Service learning opportunities within Senior Corps could produce beneficial outcomes for the American communities that Senior Corps volunteers, the partnering universities and the student service learners reside. The collegiate service learning students can play an instrumental role in increasing awareness with marketing strategies including recruitment events and informative meetings to promote participation, and enrollment into the programs. Creating and implementing marketing plans while utilizing their technology skills and social media platforms, collegiate service learners can assist Senior Corps in increasing the number of senior volunteers enrolled within each of the programs. Intergenerational learning can promote valuable relationships and partnerships that help bridge the generation gap. Service learners in intergeneration settings report “positive outcomes related to a better understanding of the older generation, enjoyment of interacting with the elders, appreciation of the life exp.

THE NORTHBOUND BUS had scarcely left North Bay, Ontario, when-at 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 1975-it came to an abrupt halt. Peering out the bus window at Highway 11, Jody Stevens saw a line of taillights stretching into the night. "There must be an accident up ahead," she said to her seatmate. "I had better get out and help." Jody, a young nurse from Toronto, was on her way home to spend Thanksgiving (and celebrate her twenty-fourth birthday) with her family in Timmins. An October drizzle soaked her shoulders as she trudged past a quarter mile of stopped traffic to an eerie scene. In the flickering light of Coleman lamps and road flares, she saw the two-lane highway spattered with blood. An old school bus converted into a camper lay on its side in the ditch. A hunter's pickup truck was stalled in the left lane, the bodies of two moose lolling grotesquely from the back. Off the right shoulder was a silver Mercedes-Benz with a smashed hood. In the lane between them a silent ring of people had gathered round a fourth vehicle-a blue 1973 Ford, a crumpled wreck, with four people in it.
"I think they're all dead," a burly man told Jody.
She caught her breath and thought, Well, Stevens, what do you do now? Jody had packed a lot of experience into the two years since her graduation as a registered nurse, most recently at the Toronto East General Hospital. She threw off her corduroy coat and crawled into the back seat of the crushed car.
While Jody was riding north, twenty-six-year-old Charles Jodouin, his wife Jeanne, and her parents Omer and Lucie Fortin, were driving south from Timmins to visit Jeanne's sister in Kingston. Despite the late hour, traffic in both directions was fairly heavy. They were less than three miles out of North Bay when, suddenly, the left rear wheel spun off an oncoming converted school bus: it flew straight into the grill of a pickup truck moving south just ahead of the Jodouins. Then, out of control, the camperbus skidded across the centre line and sideswiped the Jodouins' blue Ford. A split second later a brand-new Mercedes, travelling behind the camper, also slammed into the Jodouins.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

(Lingenfelter, 2018) This organization is well known for the relief they give to the people after they experience the disasters. It was founded in May 1881 by Clara Barton for the sake of helping the American who is in distress. The founder therefore paved way for the volunteerism to happen hence ensuring that the suffering amongst the members of the public is reduced significantly. The organization’s effectiveness if facilitated by professionals such as the doctors, nurses, surgeons and the fire fighters who provide servant leadership in their practices to ensure that the people receive quality services. However, the manner in which the organization is operated is controlled by its mission statement which is as follows, “The organization ensures that human suffering is prevented and alleviated in times of occurrence of emergencies by encouraging different people to volunteer themselves with the help of generosity as their controlling virtue”. The stringent principals used by the organization do not encourage dislikes, discrimination, negativity and prejudice as that would hinder the effectiveness of the delivery of the services to the members of the public. Moreover, the American Red Cross’ servant leadership by the members ensures that humanity is encouraged therefore ensuring that the people’s lives are protected through the respect to the people being provided with the services. It provides effective priority in the cases which are the most urgent by not condoning discrimination of the people. Again, neutrality, impartiality, voluntary services and independence are encouraged amongst the member so as to ensure that the people in the society receive the best from the organization. The independence of the organization ensures that it maintains the needed autonomy by abiding by the laws of the country. This enables it to receive enough support from the government therefore making it easy for it to deliver services to the people
- 3. in the entire country. The relief movement by the organization encourages the servant leadership by the members thus ensuring that the voluntary work is carried out effectively. The universality of the American Red Cross is facilitated by the ability to have equal responsibilities and status with all the societies in the entire country. On the other hand, the organization’s vision statement is that “Through the connections it has with different donors, partners and volunteers it has been available to help the members of the society in case of occurrence of disasters”. As a result of its dedication to serve the members of the public, the organization has made different efforts which have ensured that the people affected by the disasters in the United States as well as the other countries in the entire world receive quality care, hope through guidance and counseling and shelter which enable them to live high standard lives as they lived before. The communities of the American Red Cross are always prepared to handle any form. This plays an important role as it makes it easy for the people access lifesaving blood, blood products and safe services especially when their experience healthy issues in the country. (Tabors, 2018) Due to the fact that the organization was developed to offer servant leadership to the suffering in the society, the target population benefiting from the American Red Cross is the people affected by disasters who cannot have the ability to help themselves after the occurrence of such calamities. It is therefore controlled by principles such as impartiality, humanity, neutrality, universality, unity, voluntary service and independence which ensure the people working in it to deliver services to the affected members of the society without have to expect payments. (Maxwell, 2018) The theory of servant leadership plays important roles as it enable the people working for the American Red Cross to listen and practice mindfulness which makes it for the services to be provided to the people. When the people are listened to, the workers in the American Red Cross become aware of the
- 4. challenges and the barriers which the people are facing hence coming up with a strategy to reduce the people’s suffering. The listening by the leaders again helps in exposing the prejudice which might affect the manner in which the leader carry out different tasks for the sake of ensuring that the people’s needs are addressed in the most effective way possible. As far as the leadership theory in the organization is concerned, the leaders are skilled enough and they therefore ensure that the people are not asked for payment after certain services are provided to them. This plays a significant role in providing equality due to the fact that the American Red Cross is supported and funded by volunteers who are well-wishers for the sake of ensuring that the needy in the society do not suffer for the rest of their lives. For the leaders found violating the policies of the organization, disciplinary actions are taken against them thus acting as a warning to the others. (DeFrank- Cole, 2018) Due to the fact that the organization is a human services organization, the servant leadership ensures that the people are willing and ready to serve the public in any time the emergency occurs. As a result of such acts, the service delivery processes of the organization are made effective therefore reducing the suffering of the people. The servant leadership as used by the American Red Cross portrays values of diverse opinions, cultivates a culture of trust whereby different tasks can be carried out without maximum supervision, development of other leaders in the organization, help the members of the public in their life issues, he encourages the other leaders to deliver the services effectively, the leaders think more about helping the people in the society and they therefore act with humility to ensure that the people are served in the best way possible. The values of the leaders in the organization play significant roles in ensuring that the manner in which the delivery of services is carried out conforms to the policies of the organization. The American Red Cross should therefore develop
