2. “That Thing” is a mixed documentary. It is a
closed, single strand, non linear documentary.
It focuses on the theme of the representation
of women in the media.
3. Camerawork:
Again like the previous
documentaries, conventional interview filming
is used.
A lot of big close up, close ups and medium
close ups are used throughout the programme.
POV shots are also used along with tracking
shots from the point of view of gamers.
4. Mise-en-scene:
Barbie’s are used to convey how “women” are
seen.
Chromakey is used during gameplay footage.
Front projection is also used to create the
sense the interviewee is in the game.
5. Sound:
A male voiceover is used throughout the
programme. It uses standard English so that a
majority of people can understand it.
Underlying music is used throughout the
programme, normally relating to the topic of
discussion.
Ie. A Madonna track is played while she is
being discussed.
6. Editing:
Conventional Cut edits.
Conventional cutting out of interview
questions.
They put the creator of “That Thing” in a
computer screen so it gave the impression he
was within a game.
Fast motion was used.
