The narrative focuses on celebrating love and peace. The style uses a filter to give it a nostalgic and retro feel filmed on old film. The lighting is very bright from being filmed on a sunny day, corresponding to the upbeat song, and the saturation was increased. The costumes have a unique 1970s style to portray the band's laidback brand identity and message of peace. A variety of shots are used including close ups, wide shots, and long shots of landmarks to promote culture and unity. There are also intertextual references to other music videos through the use of signs with lyrics.
2. NARRATIVE AND STYLE
The narrative is all about a
celebration of love which is not
relative to the brief, although, it
does portray ideas about peace
which is something I want to
incorporate into my video through
the use of going to a strike that is
protesting to make the world a
better, more peaceful place.
It has a performance narrative
with the band members in and
extras. The style has a filter
overlaying the video to make it
look as though it is filmed on old
film to communicate to the
audience and give them a
‘nostalgic’ vibe.
3. LIGHTING AND COLOUR
The lighting is very bright as it has been filmed on a sunny
day illuminating the screen. This bright tone corresponds
with the upbeat, melodic song. It also looks as though the
saturation has been increased whilst editing to lift the
beaming appearance even more.
The retro colour and film applied to the video gives an overall
sense of ‘tradition’ to the piece. This is something I would
like to experiment with as my theme is all centered around
‘Britishness’ and traditions we hold as a country.
4. COSTUME AND PROPS
All the band members have a unique
style that is very ‘70s. They are wearing
flares and loose fitted unbuttoned
shirts and most have long flowy hair.
This is not unusual for the band who
have created a sense of brand identity
through their style. This makes them
looked laidback and relaxed linking to
the idea the video is trying to portray
about peace.

5. SHOT TYPES
A number of shots are used
throughout. The editing is very fast
paced to match to the song so every
other second is practically a new
shot. There are close ups and wide
shots of the band members which is
conventional of a music video. There
are also a number of long shots of
iconic landmarks and scenery to
promote a sense of culture and unity
in the video. Even though the scenes
shot here are of New York I would
want to use this idea of taking long
shots and low angle shots of
landmarks in London for my video to
further emphasise the ‘British’ theme
I am going for.
6. INTERTEXTUALITY
There is an intertextual reference to Bobs Dylans music
video to his song subterranean homesick blues. There are a
number of shots that zoom from wide shots into close up
shots of different people holding up signs with the lyrics on.
This also links to Andrew Goodwins theory of matching lyrics
to visuals. This is done throughout the video, for example,
the lyrics are ‘skies of blue’ with an extreme close up of a
plane in the blue sky.
