Lawrence worked 223 hours in June and 274.5 hours in July while gaining experience in various departments on board a ship, including crew office, reception, shore excursions, cruise department, housekeeping, public rooms, restaurant, provisions, galley, and purser's office. In July, he continued working in the purser's office for a week and spent the rest of the month in the galley, rotating through different positions like cold pantry, butchery, fishmonger, roast, vegetables, potatoes, hot appetizers, dishwashing, and pastry to gain basic experience in all areas of the kitchen.
