Terrorism poses a significant threat in India according to the Home Ministry. There are approximately 800 terrorist cells operating in the country across 205 districts, with the main regions being Jammu and Kashmir, parts of central and south central India, and the Seven Sister States. While India accounted for 2% of global terror deaths in 2012, it has experienced numerous terrorist attacks over the years, especially in Mumbai, some of which have been linked to Pakistan. Common terrorist groups operating in India include those with ethno-nationalist, religious, left wing, and narco-terrorism ideologies.
