Lecture on SexEd for Grade 7 female students
Instead of the usually awkward sex ed lecture, I included self-care in all aspects of health: physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual.

Objectives for today’s session are:
To learn the different aspects of teen health,
especially changes that happen during puberty
To learn how to take care of our body
To learn about self-care

PUBERTY!!!
is when your body begins to develop and
change as you move from kid to adult.
During puberty, your body will grow faster
than at any other time in your life, except
for when you were a baby.

MENARCHE (FIRST MENSES)
usually 11-12 yrs old
depends on race or ethnic background (Asian, Hispanics,
Blacks, etc)
genetic factors (when did your mom had her first menses?
individual factors (weight, nutrition, exercise, any other
medical conditions)
Usually happens 2 1/2 years after your breast buds develop

CYCLE usually 21-35 days from 1st period to the next period
but can be 21-45 days for the 1st 3 years of menses
DURATION 7 days or less
FLOW usually 6 pads/tampons or less each day
SYMPTOMS include pain on the lower stomach, lower back,
irritability, food cravings, sluggishness… or no symptoms!

•wash your genital area often (front
to back)

your body. sometimes the
product plus the sweat will
cause more body odor

underwear

Increase in body hair
(legs, armpit, and pubic
hair, upper lip) is part of
growing up! It’s normal!
Removing body hair is a PERSONAL DECISION.
