5. BODY CHANGES
Happens between ages of
about 10-18 years old
This change is called
“puberty”, the start of
adolescent period.
Triggered off by hormones
These hormones make the
body produce egg.
6. CHANGES IN GIRLS
Breast develop
Bony pelvis starts to grow
Growth spurt—girls often taller
than boys of their age
Pubic hair & underarm hairs start
to grow
Female sex cells develop
Ovaries get bigger
Completion of uterus & vagina

7. MENSTRUAL PERIOD
Starts at about age 11
Has no warning
Not dangerous
A sign that girl can become pregnant
Menstruation is when the rich lining of
the womb breaks down and leaves the
body through the vagina
If the girl hasn't had her first period by
the age of 17, she should see a doctor

9. CARING FOR THE BREAST

Keep vagina clean

Change your panties everyday
Wipe the vagina from front to back
Know the normal smell and amount and
type of vaginal fluid
- the amount & type of fluid changes during the
menstrual cycle.
- if there is smelly vaginal fluid, go to a health clinic
11. GOOD PRACTICES DURING
MENSTRUATION
Take a bath daily & wear
clean underwear
Healthy eating habits
- eat fruits & vegetables,
carbohydrate, iron rich
foods
- drink more fluids
Wear comfortable clothing &
shoes
Use sanitary napkins
- change sanitary
napkins 3-4 hours so that
the blood will not smell

complexion
FACT: Menstrual blood was never intended by nature to be a care
for pimples
MYTH: Bathing & washing your hair during
your monthly period will make you crazy
FACT: There are no medical studies that prove that washing your hair
during your menstrual period will make you crazy

women are unclean during their period
FACT: Menstruation is not “dirty blood”. It is full of nutrients that nourish a
baby during pregnancy
MYTH: Eating sour foods will stop the
menstrual flow
FACT: You can eat & drink anything you like. Just eat your meals
regularly with the right food

FACT: Keeping active during menstruation prevents discomfort

Rinse with warm water first, then the cold
water to close the pores of the skin.
