Technology & Social Interaction
Technology can have positive and negative impact on social interactions
What It Brings Us What It Takes Away
Reconnect with family & friends Geographically separated (enough to keep in
touch virtually)
Being in constant touch Less physical interaction
Indoor activities with family/friend (gaming
console)
Lack of non-verbal interaction
Real-time information Being narcissist or being fake
New way of doing business Poor social skill
Assist in education (self-guided learning,
Declining of outdoor activities
access education information)
Share views, ideas, opinions and
passions
Losing privacy (susceptible to cyber crime)
Exposure To New Subculture Among Internet Users
A cultural group within a larger culture, often having beliefs or interests at variance with those of
the larger culture – Oxford Dictionary
 Subcultures are NOT MANUFACTURED entities
 They are formed by a diversity of individuals who share some similar consciousness by
participating in a specific event/activity (which makes them a sub-component of a larger culture)
 Subcultures, did exist before the mid 20th century, but in general they can be assumed to be
smaller.
 Subcultures mostly limited within ethnic and racial groups that share the language, food, and
customs of their heritage.
Zoot Suit
outfit that was popular among Mexican
American and African Americans youths in
the 1940s.
Mexican Pointed Shoes
The odd fashion trend of wearing long,
pointed shoes has emerged alongside
the popularity of tribal music
Tokyo Rockabilly
With exaggerated elements of 50’s American
Greaser fashion, the group showcase their
outrages hairstyles and jackets, and listen to
classic rockabilly tunes from Elvis and more
Exposure To New Subculture Among Internet Users
Subcultures TODAY!
 Different communities all around the world began to receive more information about
different cultural forms via television, radio, print and of course, the internet.
 Technology allows the building of virtual communities, networks and checking in with one
another as if we lived and worked in the same neighborhood.
Exposure To New Subculture Among Internet Users
While other interesting Subcultures formed all around the world; yet there are some Subculture
which considered as unhealthy.
Otherkin
Otherkin is a subculture of people
who believe they are not human
beings but ethereal beings such as
vampires, ghosts, elves and even
demons. They are primarily
Internet-based and share their
ideas, thoughts on forums that
are dedicated to them
Gothic
Gothic fashion is stereotyped as
conspicuously dark, eerie,
mysterious, complex and exotic.
According to The Guardian, goth
teens in one study appeared to be
more likely to harm themselves or
attempt suicide
Living Dolls
Living dolls are young women who
have modified their faces and
bodies through cosmetic surgery,
diet, and/or makeup in order to
take on a doll-like appearance.
hey will often post online photos
showcasing their look, as well as
offer video tutorials on how to
achieve a doll-like appearance.
Technology Allow Us Act Less Human
Technology Dependence
• Technology used at every opportunity as a replacement for
critical thinking or problem solving.
• Over rely on technology to do the thinking.
Cyber Warfare
• Involves the actions by a nation-state or international
organization to attack and attempt to damage another
nation's computers or information networks
• Politically motivated hacking to conduct sabotage
and espionage
Quality Time Spent
• People feel more and more lonely, despite being surrounded
by more and more people
• Closer together but yet further apart
We can’t stop the advancement of technology
Conclusion
Technology DOES replace humanity,
but we SHOULD NOT let it be.
• Human possessed a very important organ known as
BRAIN, and yet as we make increasingly greater strides
in technological innovation, we are tempted to use this
masterful tool less and less. If you use TECHNOLOGY
at every opportunity as a replacement for CRITICAL
THINKING or PROBLEM SOLVING, in time, those skills
will begin to lose their edge.
• When we over-rely on technology to do our thinking for
us, not only are our cognitive skills losing their edge, but
our creativity can suffer as well.
• ERROR makes us HUMAN. And error is essential for
creativity
Conclusion
THANK YOU
