Technology Mediated communication is
the process by which a message, or
communication, is transmitted via some
form, or medium using technology or
technological tools.
Role of the Teacher in
Technology Mediated
Communication
Due to advancement in technologies,
advanced versions emerging in computer
hardware & software, one thing is certain –
teachers need to adapt to change to
survive and keep pace with new methods
and technologies.
Technology (Computer) Mediated
communication such as blogs, twitter, wikis,
e-mails, other social networking sites &
other technological tools can be an endless
source of ideas for activities or inspiration
for classroom instruction.
E-learning resources with supported
tools have caused certain teaching
resources to become obsolete. E.g.
the use of overhead projectors and
chalkboards are hardly used or
aren’t used anymore.
CMC may also make some assessment
methods redundant E.g. MCQ vs.
online tests
Its not sufficient for teachers merely to
impart content knowledge. It’s
important for them to encourage
critical thinking skills, promote
information literacy, and nurture
collaborative working practices.
Teaching strategies and resources can be
shared through communication with
other educators and may be integrated
across the curriculum.
1. Get the necessary basic computer
training.
2. Upgrade their skills & knowledge
regularly if you know the basics.
3. Not overuse technology as the novelty
factor is lost. Use it purposefully.
4. Make use of video conferencing,
discussion boards, e-text books etc. to
support their teaching.
5. Ensure that the students are not
passive participants by using blogs, e
mails, discussion boards/forums etc. to
carry forward the incomplete
discussion or initiate a new discussion.
6. Teacher can access various resources
available on the internet to create
innovative lessons, download materials,
interactive games, etc.

 The teacher is a facilitator,
communicating or sharing knowledge,
ideas and the information around to
develop certain skills in students or
aid in their learning via technology.
 But this very medium can fail & lacks
human essence.
 One cannot negate the teacher’s
importance no matter how advanced
technology gets. As even to learn
this very technology you need a
teacher.

 It is extremely important for an educator to have good
writing skills. Everyone is not a born writer and goes
through various experiences that contribute to his/her
journey of learning and expression.
 Plagiarism and Journal and Author Metrics were the two
modules I liked the most.
