1983: Apple Lisa
The first commercial computer with a graphical user interface (GUI) — the advance that would finally make computers usable by people with no special training. The name was the acronym for “Local Integrated Software Architecture” and possibly the daughter of someone on the development team (Steve Jobs). The computer was $10,000 and only sold 10,000 of them.

- 2. • Most of us use Wi-fi – but do you know some of its basic facts? WIFI WiFi stands for Wireless Fidelity Hedy Lamarr invented the basic technology for WiFi. By 2020 it is estimated there will be over 50 billion Wi-Fi connected devices worldwide. South Korea is storming ahead as the fastest country in the world with an average internet speed of 26.7Mbps! Wi-Fi is only a few years away from its 30th birthday- first found in 1990!
- 3. • Well, smartphones are all the rage today with new models coming out everyday. But, how much do you know about them? Smartphones The average mobile phone user takes 150 photos a month. Of the seven billion people in the world, an estimated 3.7 billion of them own mobile phones. Only 3.5 billion own toothbrushes. $4000 is the cost of first mobile phone in US, in 1983. The present mobile phones have more computing power than the computers used for the Apollo 11 to land on the moon. First mobile was designed by IBM in 1993 with a price of $899.
- 4. • We use the internet everyday. But, how many of you know these absolute facts? Internet The modern World Wide Web inventor Tim Berners- Lee was knighted by Queen Elizabeth. The internet is a massive network of computers; the World Wide Web is a means of accessing and sharing information across it. In 2010, Finland became the first country to make internet access a legal right. It took only 5 years for the internet to reach a market audience of 50 million users. China has treatment camps for internet addicts.
- 5. • New city, new area? You use the GPS! But, are you really familiar with these amazing facts about GPS? GPS Global Positioning System (GPS) is a navigation system consisting of a constellation of 24 navigational satellites orbiting Earth It was first launched and is maintained by the U.S. military GPS satellites orbit at approximately 11,000 mi (17,700 km) above Earth, with orbit periods of approximately 10 hours. Doppler Effect is the key principle used in GPS system. The change in frequency of signals from the GPS satellites helps in identifying locations. GPS was first introduced in automobiles in 1996.
- 6. • Capturing real-time moments has become all the more easier now. But do you know about the device that has made it simpler? Camera There are 12 Hasselblad cameras on the surface of the moon. The first digital camera was designed in December 1975 by Kodak. The design of cinema cameras was modelled after machine guns. It is estimated that the earth’s population has taken over 3,8 trillion photos. The man with the largest collection of cameras is Dilish Parekh from Mumbai.
