This document contains quotes from various educational publications over 300 years criticizing students' dependence on new technologies for writing and calculation. Teachers in 1703 criticized slates, in 1815 paper, in 1907 ink pens, in 1929 store-bought ink, and in 1950 and 1985 ballpoint pens and handheld calculators respectively. It concludes that while tools change, people will always find something new to criticize.
