A leader is somebody who drives a conversation and is trusted to choose between options,
seeing past the fog of uncertainty.
A technical leader has the responsibility to define reality by showing a team how to excel in the
context of a project. Setting a golden standard to emulate is extremely important for the success
of a group.
Without technical leadership, a group of software engineers is left to guess
what is a good example of technical excellence. Senior engineers might have
formed their opinion, but junior ones need to see it in action.
• Defining reality.
• Maintaining the project technical
vision clear for everyone.
• Keep in mind most engineering details
of the project.
• Answer to technical questions that
team or stakeholders have.
• Helping the team resolve difficult
engineering problems.
• Forcing decisions on the team
• Not listening to the team
• Falling behind
• Losing trust of the team
• Not being available to the team
• Giving a bad example.
Obsolescence is inevitable and affects all systems, especially military
systems which are designed for a long product life.
