Technology is improving student engagement in their schoolwork, but great teachers remain the most important factor in motivating students and helping them work together. While computers and devices have expanded course offerings and increased student motivation, effective teaching styles like lectures and personal instruction are still used. The teacher interviewed believes their experiences growing up African American inspired them to pursue education so they and their students are never disadvantaged due to lack of access to information, as was the case for slaves. They aim to spark minds and make a difference through teaching.

Me: Where do you think education is headed in the future.
Technology will improve the engagement of students in their curricular activities,
Bill Gates said it best, and I quote
“Technology is just a tool. In terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is most
important.” - Bill Gates
Great teachers and awesome technology come together to make better educated
students. Where is education going in the future? the possibilities are endless.
Using computers and handheld devices has expanded courses offerings. Increasing
student motivation and engagement. Gone are the days when information was not
made available to us Today we have endless information that’s available to us has
teachers, thanks to the rapid growth and the endless possibilities of tool, resources
and of course technology, that gives us endless access to information.
Lecture style or person to person teaching are just a few styles of teaching that
has been used for years. I will say its been somewhat effective, but I find that I’m
better able to do researches and put lesson plans together or even just find
information that is relevant to share with my class.
Question: How has your life experiences shaped your current philosophy regarding
education.
Growing up as an African American in America you notice the things that were
lost due to lack of Education by your forefathers the limited resources in those
times made it harder for them to get a quality education. Information has always
been power so lack of information makes you powerless specially during the time
of slavery this time was similar to the Gothenburg era similar. In the Gothenburg
area people travel less because of their lack of resources of the terrain. So they
lived and died within 20 miles of were they where born. Because of the lack of
information provided to the slave that were brought to America they could not
expand their cognitive Maps. That is personally why I think education is very
important and that's the reason why I became an educator so I'm never put at a

disadvantage because of what I don't know and I can make a difference teaching
my students so they can never be at a disadvantage themselves. Sparking the mind
of the future, is an important role has a teacher.
